Moments so lovely they make your heart hurt

This morning ds2 wandered into my room and climbed in for a snuggle.

It was a totally wordless, heart squeezing moment of loveliness, but it's bittersweet because he's nearly 8, he's my last child and I don't know how much longer he's going to want to do this.

I treasure every last one more than the one before, just in case it is the last.

I was half snoozing on the sofa yesterday and my 14 year old son came and kissed me on the cheek. I could not have been happier.

Baby was drizzling and had stopped. I popped my head round to ding the toddler had given the baby a chew toy and was stroking her head, telling her that they were best friends.

Another mum cherishing 8yo cuddles...

For me it’s when she notices I’m sad or in pain and puts her sweet little hand on my face, cupping my cheek. It’s total, silent empathy.

Made more poignant because I’ve really not had much of that from my anxious, distracted mother, or emotionally-blunted husband. Never had it, never missed it. Until DD started cupping my face.

I hope, when my turn to leave this life comes, I can go with that hand right there. . Hopefully by then, a long time into the future, her hand will be less of a sticky mix of slime and chocolate biscuits!

I have a picture of my grandmother from 1920 by my bedside and every time I look at her I remember how much I loved her.

Taking the dog for a walk over the fields with my boys who are 3 and 5. They run around like loons but always come back and slip their little hands into mine after a while. Makes my heart ache thinking about a day when they won't do it.

11 month old DD learnt how to give kisses yesterday... its more like a full face snog but it honestly made me melt

My DS started school in September and it makes my heart happy on the way to school when his little friends call out to him and they walk along holding hands

It's silly really but he's an only child and it's so lovely to me to see him playing nicely and that other kids actually want to play with him

I climbed into bed for one final cuddle last night and DS 2.5 just whispered that he loved me about 20 times

I'm 14 weeks pregnant and highly hormonal so these lovely moments made me cry! I can't wait to have these with my little one ❤️

Recent ones are ds age 4 telling me that he loved me for no reason just because he wanted to; then when he gave the dog a morning cuddle and kissed him on the nose 😍

Last month, a big group of 20 of us went away for a long weekend to celebrate a friend’s big birthday. She’s a pretty awesome person. On the last day we all went for a special dinner at a restaurant and friend’s husband asked all of us to stand up in turn and say something about his wife about the first time we met her and how our friendship had reached where it is now. That gesture of love and admiration and pride for his wife from him, followed by all these lovely, genuine, utterly heartfelt speeches from a big group of warm, open-hearted people who so clearly had so much love for their friend literally made my heart ache with happiness.

DS1 was really sad yesterday after school - once I’d given him a hug he wandered off into the lounge to watch tv with DS2 and I found both of them 10 mins later cuddling on the sofa with DS2 striking DS1’s head to comfort him

I love it when I see my boys spending time together. When they don’t know I’m there, and they’re just drawing together or giggling about something.

When they voluntarily hold my hand, or sit by me and snuggle in.

When they get in bed with me in the morning, giving me cuddles before rushing off.

When my littlest (nearly 7) sees me after school or first thing in the morning and his eyes light up and he runs in for a cuddle.

Seeing their eyes shine when they see me in the audience at school assemblies.

I’m so lucky.

My ds 6 was going up to bed and as he was climbing the stairs he let out a big sigh and said ‘mummy you are so lovely’ ❤️

I love how sometimes there is a coming together of strangers, sometimes literally in harmony.
We were walking through a tunnel last week, the one between South Kensington tube and all the museums.
School groups were being led back to the station after a Primary Proms concert at the Royal Albert Hall and a busker started playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Dozens of sweet, pure voices spontaneously started to sing, it was such a beautiful moment.

Aww, I too have a very loving 8yo DS and have two things from this week that have made my heart nearly burst.
I had to tell him off about something on Monday evening and when I put him to bed I said I was sorry it had upset him. "It's OK Mummy, that's in the past now."

And yesterday I had a GP appointment to get the ball rolling for gall bladder surgery. Asked GP about diet after surgery and had a little chat about it. When we got in the car DS said "If you have to go on a diet, I will go on a diet with you. I would like to try lettuce actually." When I told him not to worry about me he said "I do have the right to worry about you Mummy."

Such a lovely boy, he makes my heart swell, especially after a rough few years.

when I say goodnight to my 16 month old, and she waves a goodnight back, and I say I love you, and she gives me a kiss and a Squeezy, arms round neck cuddle. My heart could burst.

DS3 is in Yr1 at school. He has ASD.

He came out of school last week and told me about his day. There's another DC in his class who has been very unsettled since reception. Cries a lot, hits, spits etc. DS3 told me that no one will play with the child anymore and they all move away from him. So DS3 plays with him even though the other DC now won't play with DS3 because he plays with this other child.

I love all of these, especially the sibling ones.

DS (4) frequently tells me that he always wants to stay with me and never leave even when he is grown up. The other day he said "but if I forget I was always going to stay and start leaving, can you remind me to stay?" Bless him.

DD and DS have their moments but almost every card/piece of art that DD brings back from school is addressed to her brother, thanking him for being the best brother ever

Every morning DD (4.5) comes into our room and, no matter what mood she's in, as soon as she sees her brother (3.5 months) she gives him a smile and says "good morning sweetie" or similar. Then he usually gives her a great big smile back. It's so lovely. One day they might not get on but right now he adores her, and she keeps telling me how much she loves him.

She was so excited when she found out she was going to have a brother, and she just loves having "my baby" around. Sometimes she's a bit grumpy after school, but she never ever takes it out on him. A few times I've left him on his playmat and come back to find her down there with him, showing him the toys and explaining that "they were mine, but I want you to have them now"
