People in UK saying "high school"

I've noticed this term being used more and more. To me it's "Senior" or "Secondary" school. Schools with the old fashioned divisions have "Lower, Middle and Upper". Even if you follow the American usage it isn't the same as our Senior, i believe it is years 10, 11, 12 and 13. Why are people calling Senior school High school? I know, each to their own blah blah

I went to a high school in the uk in the 90s, it’s not a new thing! It’s called a college now but it’s still called high school by teachers and parents here.

I went to an English secondary school. I have lived in Scotland for 17 years, and it's always been high school up here.

31 and we had Primary school until year 6 and then High school until year 11.

I'm inclined to say and think "secondary" - I went to a comprehensive - but where I live most of the secondary schools have "high" in their names, so it's all "high school" the kids talk about

I’m from Scotland and went to Hillhead High... What else were we meant to call it? 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ It was also “senior” for the last years...

It's regional, that's all. It's 'secondary' where I am, but 30 miles away in the same county, it's 'high school'.

It might go back to the days of Secondary Moderns I suppose

Mine was Senior School. Private fee paying though so maybe that's the difference?

I'm 33 and went to a high school. Funnily enough the UK is not one homogenous mass we have regions with different dialects and colloquilisms.... strange you've never noticed that.

I'm in NW England and went to a high school. This was in the late 80s so definitely not a recent thing.
