anyone know about lego?

Is this normal lego, you know the small bricks, i thought it would be easy to find a box of it, but there seem to be a lot of construction kits which is a bit confusing (for a dimwit like me). I take it the lego duplo is bigger blocks as it is for younger.
Itis actually for ds's bday at end of november and he will be 4.

Those sets are a good idea rather than buying a specific car for him to make, bit complicated for a 4 year old (you'll end up doing it yourself)wheras windows doors/wheels are brilliant for imaginative play.

Creator is regular sized Lego, Duplo is twice the size , for younger ones, but you can join together with the right bricks.

We got one of those for the DSs at 4. Now at 9 and 7 they like those complicated sets which they construct once, then use their imaginations to construct other models. Lego is a great toy. Definitely worth cultivating an interest in it at an early age.

Some Lego shops have a 'Pick and Mix' section - you pay a certain amount for a small pot, and more for a larger one, and the selection available includes all sorts of useful bits and pieces like wheels, axles, different coloured blocks, people (if I remember correctly). I think this is a good way to buy lego - and it's worth every penny - mine still play with it, and our set even includes the lego that I used to play with as a little girl.

Thats what we started off with. The boxes of basic bricks are a great starter. Agree about the lego walls in lego shops and they do an online pick and mix aswell which is great as you can get exactly the brick you want. The lego pick and mix is a good way to get extra wheels and stuff.

We love lego, its all our ds's play with at the moment (6 and 4) Ds1 has built the most amazing cars and spaceships, all from his imagination.

Lego website: plastic starter box of bricks is 9.99, card box is 7.49, but they do include lots of little bricks, so you may need to buy some eighters etc individually, and a baseboard. Also, for 8.99 each, you can get box of wheels,doors and windows, or roof tiles.Very nice advent calendars for 12.99, but based on lego castle rather than generic stuff. Or Argos do a big startertype box, I think for 24.99.

Thanks, so the one in toys r us is quite expensive? I wasnt planning to buy from there anyway, we have got a good local toy shop so will see what they have got there. Think its a good idea to get the starter pack for now and we can add to it.

Whats the advent calendar? Has it got a brick in each door??

Avoid Lego like the plague!!!

This is a basic set, your child can build houses with this and a few other things but it's limited. The pack's designed as a taster to get them hookedgive them an idea so they can nag you collect more for the next 20 years. In the mean time you will be the one picking it up and bankrupting yourself for Hogwarts castle that takes you 3 days to put together and takes them 3 minutes to break to pieces.

It gets really expensive, most of the boxes have the same things in them apart from one or two pieces. I hate the stuff. Can you tell?

toys r us is where we have got our best deals on lego, but they are almost never on the website. in the shop they have stuff like buy1 get 1 half price, or normal box with a bonus-box attached, last xmas we got 3 for two which is very considerate of them as one of our three dc got a free present... Give yourself plenty of time to go a-hunting.

I've been trying to stop it coming into my house for years! Farkin grandparents!!! We have: All Harry Potter, All Mars Mission, Alot of Star wars, the police stuff, the construction stuff, Bionicle, Lego Technic, Fire Station and stuff to go with it, a remote control car made out of Lego, a ferrari, dinosaurs, some dude in an glider.... I forget, ds will know though. He even knows which set has which pieces in them.

We love lego too Our boys now build it themselves aswell, even better. DS1 is geggint one of the big star wars sets for christmas, ds2 will have the fire station.

DH and I are eyeing the Star Wars death Star longingly. Kids aren't that fussed but it looks so good. And so expensive.
