Next luxury Christmas wrap - argh!!!!!!

I thought I’d get ahead and start wrapping the presents I have got so far. Bought the lovely looking Next Luxury Wrap in the dark grey/silver with penguins and glitter. The dark grey paper wraps well but the glittery penguins are an absolute nightmare - the sellotape (and it is proper sellotape!) won’t stick to it at all! On some there is now more sellotape on them than paper!! Should I take it back and complain or any other suggestions on what to use?! It’s driving me mad! Oh and the floor is now also covered in glitter as are my jeans...

Aargh! I’ve had that problem before, no advice unfortunately but I have avoided glittery paper since! It looks pretty but the presents unwrap themselves!

This happened me with a textured luxury paper last year and it was a proper pain in the arse! The only suggestion I would have would be to try something more like washi tape to see if it sticks any better.

I'm being a grinch , but if you do take it back, please don't buy a glitter one again. Glitter is just like slightly larger microbeads and bad for the environment .

Glitter is bloody awful for the environment, wrecks your house, the paper will never stick properly and it looks god awful.

I don’t think there’s any point complaining, it’s glittery paper doing what glittery paper does.

That looks very annoying! Can you use string for a "rustic" look that avoids the need for sellotape?

Try double-sided tape; it'll at least be properly stuck to the underside of the flap you're sticking, and it's also thinner and more flexible so might stick where normal tape doesn't.

I hadn’t thought on the environment bit - I am normally good with that but must admit on this is just because my youngest loves penguins and polar bears. Won’t get glitter again!!!

You are going to have to find the one partially unwound oval ball if shiny metallic curling ribbon that all houses own by dark magic, and tie the gifts with that.
All the way round one way, cross over and pull in opposite directions at the back (so each end becomes a right angle with their 'elbows' locked), meet at the top, pass both ends under the original band and double knot back together, then tie in a bow/run a butter knife over to curl it.

Double sided tape?
Glue dots?
Wrap with thick ribbon to help hold together / cover sellotape?

Use superglue.

I've just discovered the same problem with some of mine 😭 I actually got the glue gun out and it seems to have done the trick 😂 never buying glitter paper again!

Also, agree about the glitter paper and environment 🙈, my husband went out with our 3 year old and she chose it, I must tell him to guide her away from it next time.

I remember this a few years ago with the Tesco reindeer paper; not only would it not stick, the glitter went fucking everywhere. In face there are still a couple of tiny bits ingrained into my desk that I never could get out!

I swear, this is at least 3, might even be 4, years ago!

BestZebbie has it. Tied presents are nice. I always do it like that now.

I was duped into buying this paper as I looked and it has the recycle symbol on the back, I asked and the lady at next said yes it is recyclable. I didn't notice the glitter until I opened it! I was so cross as I actively sought out recyclable paper. Going to take it back, even more incentive if it doesn't stick!

Would you try ribbon?

I use it as an alternative to sellotape (I could pretend it’s for my eco credentials but really I get twisted up in the stuff and have had to get it out of my hair once, it never tears properly or I get cat hairs and fingerprints in it.)

wrap the paper around the gift then tie ribbon with a half knot and put it knot-side down so weight of gift holds it in place. Slide the ends of the ribbon along the length of the parcel. Then tuck one end of wrapping, then the other and pull tight with ribbon and tie a big sloppy bow. It’s hard to explain but once you’ve done it a couple of times it’s very straight forward and ribbon makes presents look amazing, even the wonky ones. Use one at least two inches wide.

Would it stick with double sided tape? It tends to be be more sticky than Sellotape and if you do have to use loads, you can’t see it!

@NormaLouiseBates was this white paper with gold reindeer?? If so I had this too and it looked so beautiful but was HELL. Its made me avoid glitter paper forever.
