Google "chocolate sphere dessert"
You put a small dessert inside a a hollow choc sphere and when you serve it pour hot sauce in an x over the sphere so it opens out. Very theatrical. If you like you could add a little fondant cylinder and circle dusted with edible glitter to make the sphere look like a bauble, or make them look like giant choc puds.
If you can't get hold of plastic moulds you can improvise with balloons filled with cold water.

I saw this on Pinterest which I think looks awesome (but sadly I don't like trifle).

Make 2 Christmas wreath pavlovas. Decorated in appropriate colored fruits and sweets. One adult orientated with Cointreau cream, physalis sprayed gold, jewel colored fruits, the other to appeal to children....gingerbread men, fruits, sweeties.
Can't find pics of the ones I did but Pinterest has some ideas I'm sure.
I know it's pretty simple but you can make them look wow!

Do you want to make it yourself or buy?

Jamie's Banoffee Baked alaska. Looks beautiful and bits can be done ahead. All puds up-thread sound great too.

Heston's sprout surprise from Waitrose looks and sounds interesting! I'm very tempted.

Ah, I was going to suggest making a chocolate cake (using sphere tins) and decorating it to look like a Christmas pud. Like the one I made a couple of years ago. Just wish I'd have used a fresh sprig of holly and not gagged around with sugar paste icing for the leaves!

Sprout dessert has 18 profiteroles so not sure it will feed 12 without something else to pad it out.

(also tempted)
