Thomas track...

ds, like most 3 year old boys, is obsessed with Thomas!!!

Does anyone know if the wooden Thomas and friends trains fit the Brio track? We have a ton of brio and he's only recently started correcting the metal figures that we've found don't fit brio!

Yes they do. Also compatible with Carousel (Tesco) and IKEA, though the plastic connectors on IKEA track can be a bit stiff.

The tracks all fit together fairly well. We have the IKEA one and brio and big jigs so far.

We've got loads of track brio/big jigs/ikea, no issue with it all fitting together. But rather than buy the 'Thomas' track, I'd rather replace the few metal characters with wooden ones - just want to make sure they fit the standard track size

So do the brio trains fit on Thomas track? Yes they are all the same dimensions. The take and play trains fit too as far as I'm aware (I'm sure my ds uses his in it)

The metal Thomas trains that we have have wheels that are slightly closer together so that they don't run smooth on brio/big jugs etc. really frustrating for school but clever marketing design by Thomas co.!

The Trackmaster Thomas engines don't fit the wooden railways. The Thomas Wooden Railway range is compatible with all the other wooden tracks we've tried. We now have Trackmaster at one GPs' house, and Take'n'Play at the other set of GPs - all getting too frustrating!

Take'n'Play doesn't run smoothly. Depends how fussy your child is - some kids are fine with totally out of proportion farm animals, for example, but my DS would freak if you gave him a chicken bigger than a cow. He gets really upset if the trains "aren't right", but some of his friends don't care and happily shove the trains around on top.

Yes, as others have did the wooden Thomas trains fit fine on brio /big jugs etc. Having tested this extensively with at least 30 Thomas engines I can emphatically confirm.

The annoyance we had, when given a couple of the metal take and play ones, was that they do stick to the wooden ones via the magnets BUT that the poles are arranged the other way round. The metal ones don't work on the track, as you say, but DS does donetimes want to stick them all together and do that is annoying.

The good thing about having some betel ones is that they are better able to withstand the paddling pool /sandpit, so those ones are directed to that and the wooden stuff played with together indoors.

Sorry about the typos

Betel = metal

And as for Big jugs... Grin
