Post Boxing Day blues

Every year I always get fed up and irritable between Boxing Day and New Years. I enjoy the build up, Christmas Day always passes in a blur then I'm counting the days to new year to get the tree down.

I'm thinking of starting some new traditions to keep me busy and have something to look forward to.
Any ideas?

No immediate ideas on the tradition front but why not take the tree down earlier??

We take our down on the 28th as DH/DC have birthdays on the 30th and 31st so switch to birthday mode, however even if it wasn't for that I think I'd still take the tree down as I see it as an early spring clean time if that makes sense. Getting ready for the new year and new adventures stops it feeling like such a down period (for me at least).

Shopping.
Honestly, it's the sales that keep me going.

That weird lull between 27 and 31 December is not great, I agree! I arrange meet-ups with friends in early January so I have stuff to look forward to. Lots of good films out at that time of year (Oscars). When our children no longer come on holiday with us, DH and I will go away for a week in early January every year.

Tree down on boxing day every year. I hate the week between xmas and new year and my birthday is the 29th too.
This year we are going away on the 27th for a week, can't wait 😁

I love the week between Christmas and New Year. It's the one week in the year where we are all at home together with no commitments and no obligations to be anywhere or do anything. We snuggle on the sofa and have film days, go for long walks, eat selection boxes and leftovers, stay in our pyjamas until lunchtime and generally just relax.

I take the tree down on New Year's Eve and then we are ready to start the next year without the hangover of Christmas.

My birthday is in the week between Christmas and new year so I generally feel a bit fed up after that. Not really into doing anything major at new year so it's not like that's a big party to look forward to. This year I'll be on mat leave, but previous years DH and I have worked (except my birthday) in that week as it's usually a relatively quiet few days for both of us. Then we take the first week off in January. We go out and go shopping, for walks, to the cinema, museum exhibitions etc once every else is back at work/school Grin. Then, by the time we go back to work, miserable January is almost half over too - bonus!

On boxing day we go to a relatives house and do it all over again Grin we have a MASSIVE family though. We then go to another relatives for party food and more presents. How about relaxed morning, let kids play with their toys, a panto maybe, then party food in the house in the evening with a couple of films (maybe ones you got for Christmas?)

As for the rest of the time, any national heritage places near by? I've got great memories of going to places with my parents, all wrapped up, with flasks of soup, sandwiches and snacks.

I've decided that when our visitors leave we are going to a local house and gardens for the day. We'll have a walk in the fresh air and if the DC fancy it, nip inside to see their decorations, and yummy lunch out that I've not cooked Grin

Save something specifically for that time. Perhaps watch a box set - I'm thinking about watching Downton Abbey.
