...the plastic ones.
Can they go in the recycling?

It depends on your council's recycling rules. I can recycle them (I can recycle all plastics except plastic bags) but my DM who lives down the road but in a different borough, wouldn't be able to.

We put them in and let the recycling men sort them out. Xmas Blush

Unless something is specifically mentioned on the council website as not being acceptable, I err on the side of putting it in.

I put in anything I'm not sure about & let the recycling men collect it or not - if it's left (like juice and ice cream cartons atm) then I know not to bother for a while again. I do occasionally put them out to see again though.

That's the thing, I sometimes can't make out what the council will and won't take: 'yes' to carriers bags / 'no' to crisp bags etc
They take most things though, so I was going to see if many of yours took the tubs and if they do, assume ours might well too.

Thanks. I'll put them in.

Ah, all our recycling is mixed together and goes into one large wheely bin so there's no knowing if I've got something wrong, it'll just be rejected at the processing plant.

You should be able to find out what they take at the council website. Ours would take a plastic tub but you can't put stuff in to see if they take it or not. If they spot something unsuitable they leave a tag in the bin saying it contains stuff that can't be recycled and leave the whole lot!

I have just found out that you can send the Quality Street tubs back to Nestles free post. Why not just put a sticker on your tub and send it back. The address is FREEPOST NESTLE UK CUSTOMER SERVICES.
If we all send them back maybe they would rethink their packaging

Oh FFS Hilsy as per your other post, make it clear that this is your attempt to get people to join in your crusade and at no point have nestle actually said this.

To be fair the effort it would take to send a tub back, plus the unnecessary delivery probably in a earth polluting van just for them to more than likely put it into the same recycling system we do.
Is well jus ridiculous and thanks but i will jus walk mine outside to the recycling bin....

Having spoken to people working at my local recycling site, unless you are fortunate enough to live in an area where they will sort out different plastics for you, if you put in plastic that isn’t included in the list of items which your local authority will recycle, the whole bag gets ditched. Most authorities don’t have the resources to commit time to sorting through bags, so if you care about recycling, pay attention to what can and can’t go in, however illogical and maddening.

It’s easy to dismiss acts like returning tubs to the producers as personal crusades, but until we get things to change at the source, nothing will improve. Sometimes a carbon footprint is worth it to get enormously profitable corporations to put resources into clearing up their own pollutants.
