What is the best toy your 6 month old had?

Our little boy will be 6 months at Christmas and looking for ideas of what to get him... We have a jumperoo and a door bouncer already. What did your little ones enjoy most at this age? TIA x

My son loved the wave drum at Stay and Play so we got him one for his first Christmas and he still loves it now at 21 months as does his four year old brother.

He generally enjoyed simple, easy to hold musical toys as soon as he could sit up.

B. One, Two Squeeze blocks (on Amazon) are great as well. For little ones they are great teethers. As they get older they can enjoy stacking them up and knocking them down or watching a parent do it.

My older son loved Sophie the Giraffe, my youngest was a bit indifferent though!

My youngest loves taggie toys, my oldest wasn't keen. If your child likes taggies though they can be a good stocking filler. If you look up Jellibabies she does every kind of fabric and personalisation you can imagine.

Toy keys seem to be a hit with every baby, teether keys are a good stocking filler.

Board books are always good, 'That's not my.....' range is really popular. Also things like Dear Zoo, Where's Spot, Peekabook books and ones with photos of babies in.

My youngest liked toy cars really young, so maybe a baby friendly toy car would be good?

At the moment, my six month old especially loves an old plastic bottle filled with acorns! Sorry - not much help for Christmas, but very cheap!

Stacking cups. They were our most played with toy, being used every day for at least 10 years! Stacking, hiding things, sorting by colour, pouring water in the bath, their uses were endless.

DD was five months at her first Christmas, we made her a treasure basket and it was her most played with thing until she was over a year, she didn't really play with much else until she was about 10 months I don't think.

Sophie the giraffe, stacking cups- can be used the bath & the 99p store do them, invest in some mega blocks- my dd (7 months) just picks them up & puts them in her mouth at the moment but it's something she will grow into. She is starting to love lift the flap books.

Dh called it a crap tub! Loads of random stuff made of various (mostly natural materials) with different textures, so in ours we had a tea strainer, wooden eggcup, wooden napkin ring, dolly peg,honey drizzler, pastry brush, little whisk, couple of different bits of fabric, couple of different textured bits of leather (DB's partner is a saddler!), fabric rattle plus a few other things, can't remember now! Basically all the random household crap babies like to play with, just put together in one place!

Our treasure basket kept them busy for ages - silicone baking things were popular along with pine cone, ribbons, velvet, wooden egg etc

Mine loved their tomy squeak and sort eggs - they've lasted for ages!!

DD was 9 months at Christmas but best things were wooden activity cube with different moving things on the side and top. She still plays with it 3 years later.

Funnily enough I was looking at our stacking cups (now bath toys) yesterday and thinking I should chuck them but couldn't as we've had one set or another for nearly 10 years and it seems like the end of an era to chuck em. And today I see that they are on the mumsnet Swears By email!

All three DCs have loved the stacking cups, and indeed the stacking boxes we've also had.

And the building cubes with letters and numbers are still popular (even though my eldest is in junior school now!)

This was DD's favourite. We have a tiled floor and she loved bouncing the balls on it and listening to the noise they made and crawling after the truck when she was able to.

This is amazing, thank you! Am 20 weeks pregnant at moment and found out on Friday we're having a boy. Bit short on ideas for sons generally as I am on of three girls and hubby's brother is high-functioning autistic, hubby is musical & sporty, so worried am going have a mathematical, planet earth / dinosaurs loving, sporty, musician on my hands!!

Start collecting Duplo (and later Lego) brilliant stuff . Have kept all ours .

Bought ELC stacking cups for my twins (now aged 5) when they were tiny as I knew their cousins had played with them ad infinitum. Big thumbs down to ELC - their version sucks. They wouldn't stack easily as the lip on them was too shallow and they kept falling off - as a result they never really got played with.

Now this item however, the Brilliant Start Activity Table was a super, super hit... but they've discontinued that...

V-Tech Walker - he would sit at it when he was smaller, pull up on it, push it around....we had it for over a year and was one toy he always returned to.

definitely stacking cups, so much so that they were one of the few toys we kept, so have them stored away safely. She is now almost 25:)
