I just found out what DH bought me!

I was sitting cuddling the baby and doorbell rang. A delivery man handed me a lap-top! Wow! DH had meant to send it to Mother-in-laws house but something went wrong.

I am so touched that he's been so generous, I was talking about buying one later next year! But at the same time i'm kind of upset that its no longer a surprise, as I had no idea, it would have been amazing when I opened it.

Feel like I did when I was 10 and went snooping in my mum's cupboard and found my presents.

Has anyone else got any stories about messing up surprise presents, or what lengths have you gone to to keep surprises?

Does he know you know? Must be disappointing for him to have the surprise spoiled too.

Oh no...can you make it look like you don't know? Put it in a box, give it to MIL, hide it in your recycling bin and pretend you didn't get time to look for it?

He'll be gutted if he's picked something you'll love and didn't expect, only for it to be ruined...

Although what an amazing gift! I'd try and pretend you don't know. You'll get excited naturally when you are opening it, because you'll get to use it soon.

Yes unfortunatly he knows I know. I messed up there, I could have just taken it round to MILs and hoped he didnt notice the address on the box. I think he is quite annoyed, I would be if I were him.

Last year I had ordered dh pjs from house if Fraser on a sale weekend. They arrived, I thought wow what a big box and opened it.

The pjs were rust - the first item was green. Puzzled, I looked at the label. Yes it was for dh - it was two biba dresses and a top for my Xmas. He was pretty annoyed and just gave me them there and then. Which was good as the top needed returned and he bought me an iPad as a surprise instead

I find out somehow every year. I do all the washing but Dp always leaves receipts in pocket. That was how I found out he was going to propose. Or leaves my boots in their box in the boot of his car when I get the pushchair out. Or uses our joint account card to order my ipad when I then get email confirmation. Doesn' bother me really, its the thought that counts and I'm not one for surprises anyway.
At least its something you want!

I bought my husband a watch for his 40th. It was some rare German make and only a few ever became available in the UK. I kept an eye on the website of the dealer for months and was thrilled when suddenly one appeared. I bought it over the web. The bloody bank only rang 20 minutes later to talk to DH who was the main card holder for the credit card to check if it was a valid transaction and I had to tell him. It was expensive - £900 - so dear but not some madmad price. Fuckwits. It was all such an anticlimax. He was really pleased but it did ruin my surprise.

Hope you enjoy your laptop your dh sounds ace. MyDH is useless at presents.

My DS said the other day: 'Daddy is buying you a little sports car for Christmas'.

He's only four and I expect he has the wrong end of the stick on a massive scale, but, just for a moment, a little bit of me thought: 'Ooooo! That'd be nice...'

Ahh what a shame for you that the surprise was spoilt but also for your DH. My DH booked a long weekend away for me one year. He asked that the confirmation be sent to his mum's address but it came to ours. I could see what it was for through the envelope window envelope but I never let on Grin

I think DH has got me a kitchen aid, well I know as was here when it was delivered. I feel a bit mean as i am dissapointed, even though I wanted one it was not a priority. I would rather he had sent the money on 4 or 5 smaller things on my wish list. Now I just get one present which is really for the home!
How ungrateful am I?!

My DP had to ask me my shoe size the other day because there are not enough pairs in my wardrobe for him to look at and heavily hinted he was buying me hunter Wellies. Which is nice. Only I have a pair of Wellies already and i don't wear those that often. So when he went shipping for them I sent him a message saying 'If you really want to buy me a present I'd like jewellery please'.
He came back saying I'd got 'presents' so unless he's counting each boot as a gift I'm hoping I got a surprise too Grin

DH asked me for ideas, and whined at them (apparently a printer - that I've been asking to get for the house for 3 years - doesn't count, and a few days away is a rubbish idea).

As I really don't need "stuff", and although I want a handbag, I'd really want to choose that myself (it's for everyday), I actually really meant both of those.

In the end, he mulled on it, researched things, and booked the weekend away we were going to take at Halloween (except diaries got messed up) to take as 2 nights in the NY before school and work start back again!!

I am more than happy with that even if I do know in advance!! Xmas Grin

(Last year, as I had no ideas and he had no time, I was given a lunchbox - a nice one with little inserts for dressings and stuff, but still a lunchbox!! And he bought a teapot for DD to give me!! Oh was I thrilled!!Xmas ConfusedXmas Sad).

ELR I know what you mean about the homeaid being a present for the home not you!

That's the reason I've gone a bit overboard with DH's presents this year as at first I bought him DVDs but then realised that they're a kind of joint present really as I want to watch them too! (and I know my parents want to borrow them etc.) So I had to think of another present that was just for him.

I find out every year because my DH is rubbish with surprises. He'll ask me if I want to know what he's bought me, I say no (love surprises) and the he drops huge hints and leaves receipts lying around Hmm
For our anniversary he'd booked a long weekend away, that much I knew but I wasn't supposed to know where we were going. Three weeks before he started the usual 'you know you'd love to know really'. He mithered me to death because he needed to tell me and then one night when I went to bed, (DH was working a late shift) the computer in our room was left on with the conformation email, and printouts of our hotel were all over the desk! I pretended I was so tired that I hadn't seen any of it Grin
I hope that this doesn't make me sound ungrateful, he is so generous and his presents are always perfect (the anniversary trip was to Venice, I was expecting Scotland) I just wish he'd keep it to himself sometimes.

It kills DP every year. He buys me presents but then spends weeks itching to tell me!!

Every night this week he has asked if I want to open one!!!

He is a big kid who hates surprises.
