anyone else get ridiculously sentimental at the school nativity?

Had the pleasure of sitting through DCs nativities yesterday (they attend different schools).

I absolutely love watching them recreate the story. Even though this is the 7th year I've gone along, I still feel stupidly sentimental every time - to the point where my eyes are welling up from the opening scene .

This year was particularly poignant as its DS1's last nativity before going on to secondary school so that explains it a little........and just when I thought they were too cute for words they launched into Away In A Manger. You can imagine the amount of tissues I got through.

am I alone in this?

No, I'm the same. It is virtually a Pavlovian response with me; hear Away in a Manger and my eyes water. I don't need to be at a performance, it can be choirboys on the radio. I think it's just something that mums do.

I'm the same. I'm an atheist but love Carol concerts and nativity plays. I find them sooooooo adorable. The costumes, songs, mispronounces words, solos.....

I usually go to both performances as I find them so adorable. I am gutted that the juniors don't do a play but luckily ds2 is in Reception so I have another 2 more years. When I got the letter from school saying that he was an angel, I nearly started welling up with pride. As a girl I dreamed of being an angel but I was always cast as a narrator as I don't get stage fright and was a good reader. Ds2's costume is being provided by the school and if he has a tinsel halo I know I will blub!!

Yes, I love them. DS2 is in Y2 so this is the last eyar he'll do one

DS1 is in Y3 though and they just did a carol concert in the town, for years 3-5. That had me really teary, they were so good! Now I can't wait till next year when ds2 can do it too.

Yes. We had ours today. I met my mum for a cheeky sherry in the pub across the road first which I'm sure didn't help .

Oh yes. Even when its not my DCs - my friend couldn't get time off work as her boss is an unsympathetic arse so I went in her place to watch her 4yo DS be a shepherd.

The minute the curtain went back and I saw all the littlies lined up shuffling, sucking their thumbs and generally looking a little bemused my eyes immediately welled up. Away in a Manger finishes me off completely. [soppy]

I watched DD's school naivity today. It is mainly an infant's show and DD is in juniors so part of the choir. But I like to watch and listen :)

Where I work we are in rehearsal mode for our Y1 nativity so I hve seen and heard it a lot But on the actual day with all the parents watching and the little ones all dressed up I will still be sat there all emotional!

Me! DS (Y1) had his today and getting him in to the hall was a major achievment as last year in reception he got stage fright and didn't even make it out of the classroom!

Ours was uber funky. Songs were adapted to tunes like Pink (Jesus is born so you better get this party started!) & Alicia Keys (Little Donkey to the tune of New york!)

DS stood with his hands in his pockets looking bored was the most amazing shepherd that has ever graced a nativity and when his little friend sung her solo there wasn't a dry eye in the house!

DS2 had his repeat performance this afternoon. I have come down with a vile viral infection so I wasn't there to see. I had a little weep at home - and then even more when DS told me that it was fine and I should just concentrate on getting better :(

I am stupidly emotional.

Was our play this afternoon, My DS is in reception and was his first play and DD's in year 2 so she had a speaking part so was amazingly proud.

I started welling up as soon as they entered the hall, DS was an angel and looked so proud stood there singing away and doing the actions and my DD was a shepherd and it really got me when she was saying her lines, she was so good, biased yes!

I only managed to video the song my DS sang and i keep watching it back with tears in my eyes. I can't make the play tomorrow as i'm in college so my mums going but i've instructed her to video it again so I can watch it

I cry at the nativity.
I cry at sports day.
I cry on the last day of the school year.
I cry when a nice teacher or helper leaves.

Never had myself down as the weepy sort, but school does seem to trigger the tears every time.

Ours are doing something modern this year. They never actually do a nativity play, just a parade. I feel hard done by!
