What's it really like? The good and the bad with brutal honesty. Thinking of doing a post grad qualification but feel unsure as hear pressures/workload horrendous. I'd be very interested in hearing from any past or present HVs

Hmm I'm not feeling very positive about this. I'm feeling it might not be such a good move for me after all. Thanks for the insight.

Not a health visitor but recently did a placement with them. They all said how horendous the course was to become one. There was a lot of paperwork, at least half the day was spent typing up the visits they did in the other half because you have to write up about everyone present- school holidays were fun. Often children who should have been more involved with SS were bumped back to them and they were having to fight to show that these kids really did need SS. Everyone has such large workloads right now quite a lot is put down as see your hv by gp's, specialists, ss etc. Sometimes that's relevant of course but often it was passing work they didnt want. I think the worst part for me was that every so often they will just switch people round to completely different centres. I understand the logic in wanting everyone to explore a range of places but it must get tiring and if you have a team you work well with and an area you excel in it can be a bit demoralising. This is just my experience of course as an outsider observing.
