Probation extended but exceeded every objective

Line manager has decided to extend my 6 month probation for 3 months.

His reasoning is 'I was given an impossible task' as every other team member left within weeks of me starting and I was 'fire fighting' to cover off their work.

Despite this I have exceeded every objective I was given.

Should I challenge this with HR? Or just keep my head down and focus on impressing him in the next 3 months.

It's been a big blow to my confidence as I thought I was doing really well.

Great update! So pleased that things are working out now.

Yeah don't send the rubbing-his-nose-in-it email. Don't worry - I am sure he realises that the problem is him by now.

Good news about your new job and that you don't have to work with that man. But re temptation to text him, why do you still have his phone number? Time to delete/lose it.

As the saying goes "(s)he who laughs last, laughs loudest" Grin

Very pleased you are getting on so well in your new role. At least you have the satisfaction of being in a company where you are valued and appreciated.

He sounded like a nightmare. Good riddance - the worst part about it is that yet another poor person has been forced out of their job and he still carries on unaffected.

Thank you! I remember your kind words too.

I am really tempted to text ex boss along the lines of 'sorry to hear of the loss of your 6th team member in a year. Good luck explaining that one to the Board 😂' but I realise this isn't the smartest idea!

Don't know if anyone is still following this thread but I have an excellent update.

Firstly, I passed probation in my new role with flying colours and all is going great.

But even better news is that my replacement in my old company (who twat boss secretly hired while I was still in the role) handed in her notice yesterday and is leaving at the end of the week! She was still in probation so only had to work a weeks notice.

Apparently ex boss thought they were bosom buddies so is massively in shock and extremely stressed.

Good luck to him explaining that to the Board of Directors! And finding someone else with no hope of a handover. I can't stop laughing GrinGrinGrin

So very, very sorry Daim. This is beyond awful. It is outrageous! They can be such sh*ts with absolutely zero integrity but I am thrilled you have another job offer. Well done you!

Thanks both, no I didn't complain. It's all in the past now and there is plenty of gossip going around my old company about ex bosses behaviour. Am chuckling to myself at the thought of him hiring someone new without a clue how to handover the role to them and realising it's him with the problem.

Hurray! Congratulations! So pleased for you. I hope you can put this horrible episode behind you now. Remember that you did nothing wrong and it's their loss.

I assume you didn't complain to your previous company about your treatment?

I am so grateful for the support I received on this thread, it helped so much at a very dark time.
Thank you to everyone who gave advice and encouragement.

So sorry OP. This is why you should have rights from day one, so arseholes like this DO have to follow due process.

But as others have said, please do not let it affect your confidence. He's the arsehole and I have my own adverse experience of pathetic HR individuals. I have no idea why they are so useless. They'd be supporting the company by standing up to useless managers but they don't.

Good luck with the job hunt.

Hope you're having a well deserved wine tonight. Get your head around everything & remember you're highly skilled.

Ask for feedback on last week's interview & begin the job hunt.

Best of luck to you & hope soon it seems like a blessing you're out of there. You handled today so well, be proud of that FlowersWine
