Hi everyone,
I've previously worked as a classroom TA , LSA and Early Years SEN specialist (which in effect was a bit like being team leader for a group of LSAs and involved more paperwork, leading team meetings, suggesting strategies for others to try with children with SEN, etc)
I enjoyed this but found that I was taking on increasing amounts of responsibility when, as I was still support staff, I didn't have the authority to implement many changes no matter how much they'd have benefited the individual children we worked with. Not anyone's fault, just how the system works. Eventually, I decided to stop working in schools for a bit, and went to university to study Education.
Most of the students on my course are there with the aim of becoming classroom teachers. I already know that this is something I don't want to do, for various reasons. The trouble is that I'm not sure what else there is that I can do. I really enjoy working with children, especially those with SEN.
I'll be 30 when I complete my degree, and am considering studying for a Masters afterwards, although I haven't made any final decisions there yet. I'm the first person in my family to go to university and I suppose that's part of the problem - very few people in my social circle have graduate-level jobs and I'm not sure what's out there. So I guess I'm interested in hearing about the variety of other things people are doing or have heard of!
