Very sad news we are afraid, the lovely Mumsnetter Etotheipiplus1equals0’s wonderful DH died suddenly and shockingly on February 24th. There are no words, we are incredibly sorry that life has been so cruel. She and their two little children (just 9 and 6 years old) are very much in our hearts and thoughts and we send so much love Thanks Her thread in bereavement is here….

We were so glad when she accepted our offer of a woolly hug, she will be able to wrap herself and the children in it and know it comes full of love from so many. So we are coming with a request for your help, either crafting or donating Thanks

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Artesano Superwash Merino DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online

Important crafting info
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook. Please knot off VERY carefully when finishing or changing colour and sew your ends in, thank you! No blocking please, makes it much easier to join squares.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

I am on a lengthy jury service and would really appreciate it folk could wait until June 1st to post. Otherwise DH tends to just pile things up in random places, it would be much safer to hang back!

Last posting for this project is July 1st.

Sending so much love to Etotheipiplus1equals0 and their beautiful children.

Thank you so much lovely Woolly crew. Thanks

Hi everyone. Sorry for not commenting before, it’s made me quite emotional to think about it - in a good way but sometimes it’s easier to avoid thinking about it all. We love the blanket, I often find one of the kids has stolen it to snuggle under. There is so much thought in all the squares and I really appreciate all that everyone has done. As someone who has no craft talents at all I am in awe of your skills! My favourite equation is even in there! I am going to try to upload a pic of it in situ. Everyone who has come has commented on how lovely it is.
An update on us. My active cancer treatment finished just before Christmas which was a relief - we all managed to get covid but thankfully radiotherapy could still go ahead. We’re doing ok. There were some tricky bits over Christmas as expected but we still managed to have a lovely time - helped by amazing friends and family. The only positive I can take from this year is how wonderful so many people have been to us- our loved ones but also strangers like yourselves. And that is a huge positive and it has got me through an awful lot (along with a very good therapist!). I wish you all the best for 2022. I daren’t say it can’t be any worse than 2021 for us but I bloody hope it isn’t…

" I have just opened the blanket with the children. We love it! It’s so beautiful and soft and we loved spotting the different things that remind us of S, who we miss so very much.

We have decided it will live on our little sofa in the kitchen as he spent most of his time in the kitchen – he was chief cook and also worked at home in there, plus he would sit and listen to his vast music collection. I still struggle to listen to music as he loved it so much. As I sit there I will think of him.

Many many thanks to everyone for their contributions and to you for organising such a lovely gift.

I hope you have a lovely Christmas. x"

So pleased their Woolly Hug is with them, sending so much love, they are all very much in our thoughts especially this challenging Christmas time.

Thank you so much all who helped, what you do is so loving and caring. Bless you. xxx

Thank you all, it is much appreciated. This year is so incredibly shit (and there has been much swearing!) but I am determined to give my children a happy life. They deserve to thrive and not just get by. That is all my husband would have wanted.
We’ve had a day out in London today which has been lots of fun. As ready as I can be for treatment tomorrow x

Sending woolly hugs, Cake and BrewGinWine depending on your preference from here too.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with so much all at once. One of the lovely things about the woolly hugs threads is being reminded that there's so much kindness and care in the world as well as the awful stuff. I hope you're feeling surrounded by that kindness and care now with real life support and the virtual kind too

Hi everyone. @KnottyAndPistey sent me the link to this thread and it’s been lovely looking through the wonderful squares and reading your messages.
It has come at a time when I needed an uplift. A couple of months after my husband died I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have had a mastectomy and am due to start chemotherapy on Tuesday, which will take a few months and then be followed by radiotherapy. My prognosis is pretty good but it feels like a very long slog ahead, especially when the grief is still so very overwhelming. Reading this has lifted my heart a bit. The kids are doing as well as can be expected, we’ve made it through birthdays and other ‘firsts’, but I do worry about them as they’ve been through so much. They keep me going.
Thank you everyone for your hard work. Star
