JKR takes on the victim blamers over the pornography tweeted at children

I'm glad she's said this. It's despicable that TRA's subjected children to this in the first instance but even more so that they double down to blame the woman they targeted.

I don't usually like Alex Massie, but he's bang on with that. Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the tip off about the radio programme! Just listened on catch up. I assumed initially it would be done by Zoom but she really was there with him, in his shed, sipping some of the 75 bottles of sherry he gets as part of his Poet Laureate stipend. Grin There was a real warmth about that interview, I felt. I assume they know each other already.

Oh she's so honest about her journey. So apt to think that she had notes about her horrible experience with her ex husband, notes on Harry Potter and life admin from when she lived in poverty side by side in a little notebook she scribbled in when her baby was sleeping.

that's a good piece from Brendan O'Neil. I suspect he' a man on a journey. I find him much less objectionable than I did 2 years ago.

It takes him until the final third of the article, but he does note that the treatment of J K Rowling is largely driven by misogyny.

I may be misremembering, but wasn't it B O'N who was thoroughly obnoxious to Posie Parker a couple of years ago? Ridiculing her for talking about social contagion? If so, he should apologise.

@serendipitea

For the many fans of JKR, not only for her position on women but for being a smart, fun and intelligent woman, she will be on Radio 4 this evening at 7pm to talk about "magic and illusion, switching genres, creativity , sheds, sherry and coffee shops" with Simon Armitage, the poet laureate.

I just made a thread about this, didn't see that you'd already posted about it.

That O'Neill piece is excellent.

'The forces of unreason, illiberalism and denunciation that are now central to woke activism, and especially trans activism, cannot be countered by keeping quiet. They won’t just fade away. They have to be confronted, forcefully, with clear arguments in favour of freedom of speech, rational discussion and women’s rights. It’s the Rowling Test – will you or will you not speak out against the misogynistic persecution of JK Rowling and others who have been found guilty of thoughtcrime by the kangaroo courts of the regressive regime of wokeness? Right now, many are failing this test, miserably.'

Brendan O Neill was really good on this on GBNews this week and his article here is spot on

The silence of some is just as bad as taking the side of her abusers - cowards every one of them especially "feminist" Emma Watson

Probably both. But Doyle is a man. And therefore far more credible, than even a woman of J. K. Rowling's success and wealth.

Plus he's gay so already part of the LGBT. And he's very clever, incredibly articulate and quick thinking.

And he gets it.

He's got to be a massive worry on all fronts.

Because they truly do dislike J. K. Rowling for showing them a mirror and showing them actual reality. But they can't admit that it's a reflection, and that it's real.

Like JKR's Erised mirror - the reflection is something the individual deeply wants to be true but it isn't?

It's very disturbing to watch people waste away in service of this. Do you think it's the cognitive dissonance that is leading people to block Doyle on this point because they are experiencing discomfort - or is it an extension of #nodebate?

It's insane. It must make Andrew Doyle fear for humanity. You ask them to show a transphobic thing she said, and they show you something that someone else has said 😂

And keep doing it. They are desperate for it to be true.

It's very weird to watch. Because they truly do dislike J. K. Rowling for showing them a mirror and showing them actual reality. But they can't admit that it's a reflection, and that it's real. So they have to find some other roundabout way of explaining why they don't like her. Even tho it's fiction.

That's why they will never go, oh yeah you're right.

There is no indication of any pause for reflection about what they're doing.

Just when are they going to have the, Hang on a moment - why am I behaving in this irrational manner that is doubling-down on how little regard I have for evidence based scrutiny?

I see he jas given an example of what we've all experienced:

1).Ask a TRA what JK Rowling said that was transphobic
2) TRA posts link to an article or blog post or YouTube video with a bad faith interpretation of what she said and a load of waffling, hyperbolic extrapolation
3) Ask for direct quotes from Rowling that back this up
4) TRA refers back to article/blog/video
5) No, that's opinion and interpretation, not proof. Please can you provide actual proof?
6) TRA insults and blocks.

There's even a couple of them doing the same in the replies Hmm
