Because it's in Scotland,

Most of the panel are lying.

There's one bloke who is telling the truth.

It's extraordinary isn't it? I'm over 60 now. 40 years of despising everything the Tories stood for, 40 years of debating with my ultra-Tory family (not fighting, just debating) and here I am. There's GOT to be another party that moves onto this road, please please please please

Jux I've never voted Tory in my life.

Until now, I could never imagine doing so.

It's a remarkable listen isn't it? The contempt for people having wrongthink is far more apparent in the audio than can be discerned in the transcript.

Only just been able to listen. Shameful, utterly shameful. Green woman was the autocratic epitome of what I hate most about political 'debate' these days. Greens will not get my vote, no matter how good the candidate (sigh; we have quite a good one here, but I shall vote for someone else on Thursday). Jardine and Baillie were a waste of time. Now, McKee wasn't quite as kneejerk as he could have been and was at least calling for debate. The only party which would secure my vote on this topic, at present, is the Tories and I have not voted for them since I was 18ish and just voting with my parents.

It makes me feel a little bit sick that I actually like the Tory position on anything, and that I like their position on something so basic and important as this is concerning me greatly. It is one of the things I would base a GE vote on, and that is scaring me! (I'm not a Tory, I'm not a Tory .... repeats mantra to infinity...)

Will the BBC be changing under DG Tim Davie?

Let's hope so.

Ddraigoth yes the topic was just that.

@nauticant

This is normal for the programme. They open up Any Answers often with half a dozen topics and only get round to taking calls on 2 or 3, with those being the ones having the highest profile in the news.

What issues were deemed high-profile enough to appear? I hope that they weren't wasting time on trivia like the decor in 10 Downing Street when there are actual issues people care about to discuss.

I agree about targetting the BBC for complaints, but am also wondering whether anyone on twitter or wherever the Scottish Greens make public statements, shouldn't just comment there. Not just about the slur against the person phoning in, but how overall their representative made them look arrogant, rude and self satisfied.

Have seen on facebook a number of women saying they did try to phone in to Any Answers. It would be good if we could work out a way of tallying that up. ie to see if the BBC did screen out those wanting to comment on that question and how it was dealt with.

Slater definitely insinuates the audience member is a bigot.

@Ereshkigalangcleg

One of the panel actually said we all use gender neutral toilets in our own houses.FFS.

This is the stupidest argument ever, in a crowded field.

Omg I know like, I always walk past three urinals and an unfamiliar man when "just going for a pee" in my own home.

I apologize my comment has added nothing to this thread other than to express further outrage over that sort of stupidity.

In my view the complaint most likely to effectively engage with BBC is that one of the panel, Lorna Slater, slandered a member of the public who had called in, apparently in good faith, declaring him to be transphobic, with there not even being any basis for her to reach such a prejudicial judgement.

What was especially interesting was that in normal circumstances the host, Chris Mason, would come down hard on this and say that it was unjustified and in no way reflected the views of the BBC but in this particular circumstance he was so mild in his response it would suggest he felt his hands were tied in some way.

I complained that the Question originally asked was ignored by the Chair and that any Answers didn’t discuss it.

How can someone in public office not see a difference between privately owned spaces you can control and public spaces you can’t.

Have just listened to both programmes on BBC Sounds and feel sick with anger. What is a f**king woman??? No one dates to answer. Clearly just a feeling or an idea. A dress and heels.

Can't believe I once voted for the Greens. That woman was appalling. Appalling!

Thank God for the Tory talking sense. I can't believe I've just typed that.

I can see myself voting Tory at the next GE. 😭 Oh God. Thoroughly depressed.

I think this is worth a complaint to the BBC.

I listened to this because had seen this thread, not realising it was focusing on Scotland.

But long before the question about what is a woman, that representative of the Greens was just appalling. I usually think its Labour members (in England anyway) who take this partonising sneering tone to everyone.

And then for her to accuse the quesitioner of doing so in bad faith, when anyone who even slightly follows the news knows it have been an issue in Scottish politics.

But yes, how sad to have a conservative man speak rationally, and then Lorna going all balistic that there isn't a problem about self id because the EA takes care of that for specific situations, when I thought that Scotland had redefined what a woman was.

I thought the presenter who I think usually interjects too much did try to put forward that fact that some women do think its a problem, rather than the 3 women there saying we dont think its a problem so therefore it isn't.

On any issue surely politicians are supposed to say something along the lines of I hear your concerns and me have safeguarding policies in place. But all we got is you are all transphobes.

I have just caught up on the Any Answers, and what a disappointment. Did no one phone in? Or is this just bbc bias.

Report
Thecatonthemat · 01/05/2021 15:42

Perhaps they could offer a special programme to look at the emails they must have received and the women waiting to phone in. However I am not surprised they decided not to allow any time.

Anovaneway · 01/05/2021 15:40

Well that was disappointing. They used to cover more than 2 or 3 topics even if they crammed them in. I wonder if anyone from here tried calling in.

Nancy Not sure if DrNW has said that but I agree with that position. Others don’t. (Not a hive mind, etc.)
