I've just seen this on Twitter. That'll be even more lost readers then. Not that I'm one of their readers.

I don't blame her. It really has come to a pretty pass when, as a PP pointed out, the Daily Mail has better feminist content than the Guardian! But I agree that, even though some of its content is still shockingly misogynistic, it does. Which doesn't say much for the Guardian.

I really do need to take out a subscription to something.

A big loss for the guardian, and very unsurprising given their direction of travel...

I look forward to seeing her join a paper that respects her views and her writing.

@Mashingthecompost I agree! All suggestions welcome...
CNN app is good for international, but would love a decent outlet for intelligent domestic stuff (without having to hand money over to Murdoch’s evil empire). New Statesman is OK, just obvs very Labour centric. Spectator again good for a free browse, but just too posh/Tory to actually buy.
There’s definitely room for something better. Hope someone takes notice!

Oh no.

She was one of the very few journalists left at the Graun who had any principles. The way she's been bullied was outrageous.

Will Freddy M be back then? I always thought, perhaps wrongly, that Freddy left because of Suzanne.

Flowers Suzanne.

I don't know how she's stuck it out so long. Its been miserable watching the once proud Manchester Guardian slowly turn into the hipster version of the Independent.

I'd argue that this leaves no need for an obituary. I wonder if Suzanne's reaction to the obituary was the final straw?

@Quillink that's what I thought. Editorial solidarity and all that, even though they showed none to her. That petition organised against her by her colleagues - just awful.

But she has just tweeted that it was entirely her choice to go

Used to be a Guardian reader, now I buy the Saturday Times and the Spectator. I’ve decided I need my views challenge and be allowed to disagree with articles in a grown up way, which both these publications allow me to do whilst reading writing by exceptional people too.

I'd started looking at it again recently, I bought it for years and at one point I was a subscriber but now I subscribe to The Times, my 20-something self would have been horrified. Back to boycotting it then....

John Crace is still worth reading

and the Mail is FULL of misogynist crap

but I do begin to wonder

O that's sad. Viner seems hell-bent on sacrificing the graun at the altar of wokeism.

The Guardian covered the shocking mismanagement of his crimes comprehensively throughout the main paper & Comment sections

That's sad, but she was far too good for them.

I was done with The Guardian years ago. I'd rather read The Daily Mail these days. Their feminist articles are far better and far fairer.

So disappointing. She and Hadley main reason for reading. Fingers crossed new column somewhere soon.

@DrDavidBanner

I was unaware that the Guardian ran an obituary on Peter Sutcliffe.

DAFUK???? Shock

Well, it wasn't complimentary in any fashion. It was interesting - it put his heinous crimes front & centre & contextualised the appalling paths he chose.

The Guardian covered the shocking mismanagement of his crimes comprehensively throughout the main paper & Comment sections.

I'd be really interested in some alternative media outlets to focus my attention on at the moment, if anyone has any recommendations.

Good for her. Maybe (although I won’t hold my breath) the Guardian will start to realise why they are in such dire financial straits. The Horton-dwelling, bearded wokesters who they seem to aim themselves at represent a tiny fraction of the population. By letting their quality staff go, they are going to lose so many more readers. I only read stuff by Owen Jones and Ash Sarkar and others so that I can laugh at how clueless and out of touch these idiots are. Suzanne’s stuff was measured and made people think. She was what a journalist should be.

This reminds me of the Labour election. Even when people are screaming in their faces that they are getting it wrong, they just don’t get it.

Some of Suzanne's greatest hits (there are too many to catalogue here, but these are some of the ones that have upset so many people at The Guardian):

Women must have the right to organise. We will not be silenced...
