I missed the original tweet but from screenshots it looks like Jess Phillips put up something well-meaning, but a bit tone deaf on how yesterday's far-right protesters don't represent who we (the UK) are. OJ has taken it upon himself to tell her how wrong she is, bringing his merry band of trolls with him.

I thought he might have been a bit tired after a full-on week of telling women why they're wrong, but nice to see he's got some energy left eh?

Definitely, Bovary.

@CaraDune

I'm re-reading Animal Farm at the mo. And I've remembered how someone on here many years ago nicknamed him "Squealer." Now I see his face morphed onto Squealer and hear his voice as I read. Grin

(And I seem to recall that he vanity-searches himself, and back when the moniker was first attached to him, he was deeply offended by it. GrinGrinGrin)

The thing about 'Squealer' which is so deliciously accurate, not only about OJ, but many SJW, is that so much of their attention seems to be focused on a creating a culture of fear befitting an Eastern European Stasi state circa 1958. It is utterly ludicrous that people are frightened to come out as GC. As the Newspeak dictionary continues its ceaseless redefinition of words, Orwell has never felt so prescient.

@twoHopes

I think he is prob a very good example of how twitter has turned reasonable people mad

This is exactly it. He's like a left-wing Donald Trump - constantly tweeting into his echo chamber, slowly losing his grip on reality. It's a real shame.

To me, he's like a left wing Katie Hopkins. He agitates and causes divison just like she does, even within his "own side". It's both their reason for existing.
But he'll never see this similarity himself.

OJ identifies as representing the left.

And we all know what it means to identify as something.

And he should have used "me" in that sentence Grin

I used to be a big fan of owen
I loved his chavs book. In fact i have it on my bookshelf.
It is disappointing what he has become in recent years. Just an agitator, trying to sow divison and identity politics whever he can.
He depresses me.

He's not the only one and it has done the same to people of all political persusions but he typifies this phenomena imo.

@Collidascope

Off topic, but this drives me mad. "Isn't about you or me." Not I.

Ah, but the way to work the grammar out is to rephrase the sentence without 'you or'

"It isn't about me"

Clearly not a thought LOJ can formulate clearly, can see why he struggled.

Owen Jones is a corrosive manifestation of aspects of modern journalism

I agree. The worst thing about modern 'journalism' is a refusal to publish news which is deemed 'problematic.' It is not journalism at all. Increasingly, it's just a shrill, partisan screed. OJ is the epitome of this.

He is the epitome of a 'woke scold'. His post certainly has an air of "I hope you've learnt a valuable lesson" about it. What a tool.

He is the epitome of a 'woke scold

That is so true. It is the combination of the 21st century's identity politics with a regressive, 17th century puritanical zeal. And he only ever seems to target women.....

They both seem to hate women so, yes, they are very similar

Hayden would be the perfect bridesmade.

Since they would both be grooms technically Hayden would have to be the best man.

Maybe we could pit them against each other?

I'm not sure that would work- has anyone ever seen them in a room together?

I wonder whether Harrop goes into a phone booth, removes his glasses, puts a beige jumper on, rubs some onion in his eyes and comes out as superowen?

Report
Vargas · 14/06/2020 23:46

Completely agree with 'he could start a fight in an empty room'. Insufferable. He reminds me so much of that kid at school who always grassed everyone up and then said it was for the best and you'd thank him later.

Despite reading the Guardian for many years although I have stopped now I honestly didn't know who he was until I started seeing his smug mug here. I had obviously put him in the skip this ranting know nothing category years ago and ignored anything he wrote. I gave up the paper at the point most of it was being skipped so he must be cheif role model ranting know nothing over there.

Funny chap.

All I can say is that with the immense righteousness he feel forced to display at every turn, he must have one hell of a shadow there in the subconscious.

It's almost like he must police others day and night, to avoid looking at what he needs to police in himself.
