"Thinking Beyond: Transversal Transfeminisms" conference

I'm a member of the Postcolonial Studies Association, and just received a mail out about a "conference" that's taking place at Roehampton University in July this year.

The call for papers is here in full:

transstudiesuk.files.wordpress.com/2018/12/transfeminisms-conference-cfp-3.pdf

but here is a taster. Such loaded language:

"The English-speaking world has recently rehearsed a series of attacks against the experiences and identities of trans people. From the Trump administration’s aggressive policing of trans soldiers in the military, to rampant transphobia in the UK’s feminist circles arising from the
recent consultation about the Gender Recognition Act, political tensions have lately brought renewed attention to the ideological schisms at work within our societies at large and within feminist communities more specifically. It is therefore more important than ever to bring
together the discourses of feminism, gender and sexuality studies, queer theory, and trans studies, in an attempt at generating dialogue across discursive borders, and in solidarity with the recent plights of trans people.

The divisive threat of trans-exclusionary radical feminism is once again upon us. As Patricia Elliot observes, “[s]adly, the ‘rage of radical feminist theories’ […] has not entirely disappeared. It reappears in various theoretical positions, political practices, and attitudes and has caused a major rift among feminists, as well as good deal of pain for transpersons.” As an antidote to such schisms, Elliot proposes a transversal methodology amongst the members of feminist and LGBT+ communities, a mode of thought recognizing their different experiences as well as those aspects that are shared.”

Worrying.

I just googled postposttransexuality, and apparently it is a follow on from posttransexuality. Makes perfect sense, not just a bunch of random words joined together, I mean someone wrote a book on it so it must be important.

The title is mostly making me think "transverse abdominis". Will there be sit-ups at the conference? Is that bit mandatory?

It's so stupid as feminism doesn't exclude trans men. Cos they're biological women.

So trans exclusionary feminism doesn't exist.

Male exclusionary feminism does though. That's what feminism is.

In light of the Posie thread I have just bought a tshirt.

Inspired by this thread and Posie's I shall wear it while performing my interpretive dance piece (in two acts) entitled Genuine Questions & Goady Fuckers: Why Can't You Just Be Nicer????

Crowdfunder to follow...

But words are so oppressive, man.

Now a good reason to skip words and simply present as a performance?

A good reason?Confused that wouldn't be in the spirit of the event at all would it? All you need for the performance is a title: Beyond Thinking: transposed translocations.

How about performing all of this in non-linguistic interpretive dance?

I like it!

Or maybe it could be an opera...?

Queer theory is like The Blob, slowly but relentlessly advancing and absorbing everything in its path. Except that one island full of uncooperative women.

So Queer Theory and Radical Feminist Theory is meant to be melded together? Despite the fact they are diametrically opposed on the transgender issue. . .I wonder which one is supposed to give up ground then, eyeroll.
