She's 13, just started 2nd year at high school.

They're doing "fitness" in gym at school. Today the teacher had music on and "Blurred Lines" was one of the songs. My dd and her friend complained to the teacher, explained why its offensive and he apologised profusely, deleted it from the playlist and also called me to apologise.

Just delighted that she's not afraid to stand up for women even at only 13. Reckon being a feminist mum must have rubbed off!!

My ds1 (14) took ds2 to his school disco at the end of term. For some reason the school thought it was a good idea to play that whistle song, I can't remember what it's actually called. Ds1 spoke to the teacher and suggested it probably wasn't a good idea to have 5 year olds, or any young children listening and singing that song, and they may find parents complaining to them if they carried on.

I was pleased that he did that.

This came on the radio when I had a younger female relative in the car a few weeks ago and before I had a chance to turn it over she said 'that's sexist, can we turn it off?'... She's 11.

I looked up the lyrics. It's deeply distasteful, no matter how "catchy". I really wish my dc hadn't heard such awful stuff - it's obscene. Rather sad that it took a 13 year old to point it out to a 25-ish year old education professional, though!

Very impressive - there's a real juxtaposition in this PC world of what is verbally acceptable versus the song lyrics , blared out everywhere and anywhere!

...I'm still at the ripe old age of 30 something & only just getting to grips with what feminism is and all this after just a chance encounter with Germaine's book in mum's bookcase when I was around 23! Despite it being written quite a few years ago it was striking how much it resonated with me and I'm ashamed to think how naive I was before.

So anyway, when I hear things like this I'm so pleased...

I'm so aware now and whenever and wherever there's even an inkling of misogyny/ sexism etc, I'm on it. Just don't want my DD to think (realise) the world is such an unfair place but I suppose as long as she's informed she can't be manipulated...Maybe??

On another point really think books such as 'female eunuch' and the like should be part of the curriculum for everyone boys and girls ...Hope my daughter finds it on the bookshelf just like I did.
