So I was on Thesaurus.com just now looking for alternitive words to "diverse" and right below the header and above an ad for an instant grammar checker were these links

There was also another for "Top tips for a tiny belly".

This is a Thesaurus site! Why do these adds need to be here? And young girls doing homework? Do they really need to read this sort of stuff?

I'm probably not making much sense, Just needed a rant.

I would love to know whether men get bombarded with adverts for belly fat miracle cures, wrinkle cream and other 'beautifying' products, ie. whether they are subjected to the constant message that they could do with 'improving'...

I got Coors Light, Monster.co.uk, Play.com and Alfa Romeo!!
I'm looking for a job and Dh must be looking for a car!!Of course, while we drink beer and entertain oursleves on play.com!

(I do usually get loads of belly fat and wrinkle removal secrets so I'm chuffed with my alfa romeo. Grin)

I didn't get any adverts, but then I use Firefox adblocker, which I downloaded after I kept being bombarded with the flat belly ads, and adverts for meopause cream! I write fiction and often look up odd stuff on the internet, so used to also get random adverts for things like fishing bait or concrete!

Anyway, Pointyshoes, I did watch that link and thought it was fucking typical. It's all about the women changing to please the men, isn't it? "Helping women... who were accidentally making mistakes that turn men off...." WTAF?

Has anyone of you signed up for his newsletter and had 'the secrets' revealed and been 'taken into the mind of a man?' If so, what was it like?

I just turned it off for this page and can now see the banner ad at the top, a Fairy ad above the Mumsnet latest box and the Great Little Trading Co. ad below it.

On Thesaurus.com I searched 'coffee' and got ads for Coors beer, Blurb self-book publishing, Tesco Mobile ... aaand tips for a tiny belly, catch him and keep him and the chakra one.

i don't think it's the women that want those sites nailak. it's the women that are getting them. totally different ball game. it's the advertisers telling women they need these things, not the women telling the advertisers they need them.

lol at lack of genitalia though.

adblock. that's it. how do you get that then? and so much screen space is devoted to advertising, what does it look like? just blank space? or is the rest of the screen rearranged if you use it?

Report
nailak · 21/01/2012 22:33

I got wonga.com and win an ipad2 lol

Maybe from my pc I would get different?

But its sad women want those sites, they don't get how men think in relationships so they need to change the way they think and feel? What about the men? Shouldn't they be learning how women think to, through open communication with the woman?

I think targeted advertising is equal opportunities in being equally crap for men and women.

Women seem to universally get lose belly fat/keep man, men get penis enhancement ads. Not much to choose between them in awfulness.

I got the belly one (as I seem to do everywhere), one for making money working from home (illustrated with mother and baby), horoscopes and ones related to the word I searched.

Nothing about keeping a man.

Maybe the machine thinks I'm a lost cause...

The word "space rocket" reassuringly gave links about the channel tunnel, GPs tracking systems and "Service contracts for vertical Carousels and Shuttle lifts."

And about having a tiny belly
And keeping a man

ah..... could it be linked to your search word too? i searched 'feminist' this time and the ads were 'what is a press release', 'theprecarious.com' (which apparently is a radical politics site), and of course (cos all feminists have trouble keeping a bloke Wink) the 'catch him and keep him' one.

ha.

i wondered about mn, too, meditrina. how funny that the crap belly fat ads are targeted at middle aged wimmin who have sedentary hobbies.... Grin

they can feck the feck off though. i was you-tubing a shred move. Wink

Report
outofbodyexperience · 21/01/2012 22:05

ha!
i got 'why men pull away'
'become a you-tube partner'
and 'chakrahealing.com'

i have no idea why the first one (i suspect they pay more ad money and so get everyone), but the you-tube one is solely becuase someone on here sent me a you-tube link about a specific exercise - i clicked on it once... and the chakra healing might be because i was googling to see if rainforest crisps were gluten free. ergo i am clearly you-tube addicted hippy with marital problems.

it is utter bollocks. isn't there some way you can block all this tosh? some ad-blocker thingy?
