Want to know what I dislike most about feminism?

Stereotypes?

"all men are pigs, all men are rapists, men don't care about their kids, only men are perpretrators and only women are victims, all men eat children etc etc"

Some feminists even want men to take responsibility for the actions of rapists and apologize for them.

Well the reality is everyone is different and unique. Some men are pigs but some aren't, but some feminists just love tarring everything with the same paintbrush don't they?

The OP has a very unreconstructed view of feminists, does he not?

nah Jess they'll just tell us we have no sense of humour in the same post as complaining about us being childish Grin

I think life is too short to worry about what the random troll thinks ie engage seriously. It is not too short to have fun at their expense though (another one here with few pleasures in life I'm afraid Wink)

Oh come on BoF. Ridiculing the educationally challenged Dave is one of my few pleasures in life.

It might bust the 'feminists have no sense of humour' stereotype at least! This was an accusation that was thrown at me the other evening by a man.

I agree with the "don't bother to engage seriously" POV.

Why should we?

Dave isn't interested and life is short. "Oh but you'll look bad to people who think feminists are like that anyway"... well er, tbh, I don't care about looking bad in front of people for whom I have very little respect. If you are so lazy that you stereotype a whole group of people on the basis of their political opinions, then I'm not going to bust a gut trying to impress you. What would be the point? You'd only forget that once ages ago, someone who you think might have been a feminist, said something that made some sense.

I think it is a total waste of time responding to people like this who are obviously on the wind-up. Far better to let it slide out of Active Convos by completely blanking them. They are clearly desperate for attention. I very much doubt that anybody with an interest in Feminism who is lurking will take them seriously either.

I don't agree Queen Gigantaur; I think taking the piss is the best reaction to trolls because at least you can have a laugh doing it. Seriously, being too self-conscious about your image is never going to work; whatever you say people who are already hostile to you will still be hostile and you can express yourself as carefully as you like and you will still be misrepresented. If you worry too much about your public image it will inhibit the free flow of conversation and thinking aloud which is how ideas progress.
Feminists get more misrepresentation and more shit than almost any other political group I can think of and acting like saints will not prevent that.

yes i have heard people express their beleif that feminists do indeed think things like those Dave had posted.

To throw around childish remarks does the true beliefs of the feminist movement no favours at all.

either do not engage with him at all if you believe he is truely trolling or better still explain to him why he is wrong.

you know what I most hate about men?
stereotypes!
Ok I know some men are very intelligent and do make some good points (and I lead them by that point....), but sadly a few do let themselves and men generally down by being utter fools. And rapists.

I Loved this bit:

""No MN Feminista has ever expressed any of the statements expressed in the OP."

Perhaps not real feminists but many women claiming to be feminists certainly have"

I spent the journey into work trying to get my head round it - but essentially doesn't it totally controdict OP?

Yes BitofFun but my better thing to do would necessitate hauling my arse and the cat's arse out of bed and doing some work and I can't bear it! Don't make me do it! Just five more minutes of snoozy MN bliss!

Well saying as we're sharing; I'll tell you what I dislike most about feminism, Dave.

Let me think, ah, yes, I know - it's encountering silly, clichéd, tedious and unoriginal viewpoints like the one expressed in the OP.

Apart from that, feminism is brilliant!

Grumpla · 12/01/2011 07:54

What a silly little man.
I really don't recall ever having heard anyone express those sentiments and I do think I've had quite a lot of exposure, what with being brought up by feminists before I married a feminist and gave birth to another small feminist.
Does Dave know that men are allowed to be feminists too, btw?
