What book have you read through the night and day to finish

I have always loved reading but at times notably pre kids have been quite selfish I remember once I started reading Lord of the Rings on a Friday night and spent pretty much the next 3days or so doing nothing else and I say selfish because it was my DH birthday on the Saturday but I couldn't do anything until I had finished them He sort of understood !!but only twice have I stayed up since then to read a book and one of them was The Kite Runner the other was a book called Princess ,what book has ever made you stay up all night because you were so gripped by it ?

Dark Angel by Sally Beaumann. Fantastic period read and devoured it on a Sun bed years ago. An all time favourite.

Now my DCs are grown up I do have more free reading time but can't manage all night reading any more.

I whizzed through "Heartburn" by Nora Ephron, a favourite. (Recipes to keep in mind, too!).

The Help kept me up till about 3am, which is remarkable for me. Don't think I've ever had the stamina to do the full night shift reading.

More recently I've stayed up reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara and Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.

East of Eden - Steinbeck. I'd seen the film, fallen in love with James Dean playing Cal. Started reading it one evening, read until the small hours, fell asleep, woke up the next morning, grabbed it and read until I'd finished it.

I remember sitting up all night reading The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve.

The other one that springs to mind is LA Confidential by James Ellroy. I read that one all night too.

It's weird though because although I enjoyed them both, neither of them come close to 'best book I've ever read' standards and yet there was something about them both that kept me reading.
