Can anyone recommend me some really funny books?

I was thinking today that it has been a while since I read anything that really made me laugh.

I love PG Wodehouse and also find some Bill Bryson books very funny.

Diary of a Nobody is probably one of my favourite funny books. I also love Evelyn Waugh Decline and Fall and Vile Bodies.

Has anyone any suggestions?

I recently read The Wallcreeper and it's very funny.

Essentially an observation of a very strange marriage with adultery, drug use, eco activism and bird watching thrown into the mix.

The throw away lives are to die for.

Big second vote for '1066 and all that' - I love that book so much and have based a disturbing amount of my historical knowledge on it. Just finished re-reading The Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett, marvellous. All my books are packed in storage so can't do a scan and remind myself of any more favourites .

Derec Longden. His autobiographies are funny and sad.

The funniest thing I ever read was a chapter in the book Innishowen by Joseph O'Connor. It was the description of a character pretending to be Bill Clinton communicating with air traffic control in Ireland to try and land his plane illegally. I was literally weeping with laughter. I gave it to DH to read as obviously he was intrigued to find out what had made me laugh so much but he was left cold. I've never found anyone else who's read the book to see if it was just me.

Re Stephen fry, I liked Making History but another of his, The stars tennis balls, turned out to be the book I have most disliked ever and binned.

If you like fantasy fiction anything by Terry Prachett, they always have lol moments in them.

Also agree that Stephen Fry's books are very funny but don't read if you are easily shocked.

Frankie Boyle - again not for the faint hearted.

If you like Diary of a Nobody, try 'Augustus Carp, Esq., By Himself: Being the Autobiography of a Really Good Man'. Long time since I read it but lovely send up of pomposity.
