This is the new home of this thread which has now died as none of the active particpants want to operate behind the new local barrier.

For any newbies - we are meeting usually on the last monday of each month (plus or minus a week depending on other things going on). The dates of our next 2 meetings were fixed last time we met but I am not 100% sure of them, hopefully one of the others will be along in a moment to confirm them. Venues are variable and we take it in turns whether they are north or south of the river so everyone has occasions when the meeting is nearer to them.

We are deciding the books 2 months in advance to give ourselves plenty of time to find a copy and read it. We decide which book to schedule by concensus at the end of each meeting - anyone can suggest one.

Our next meeting will be at the end of November and we are reading "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K Dick

The next meeting (which will be in mid January) will be looking at "The Magicians" by Lev Grossman.

Is this book club still on? Would like to join perhaps. How old is everyone in the group?

This thread is in danger of getting zombie status, but for the benefit of less regular members or new people - this bookclub is still going but is mainly communicating via facebook these days. If you want to get access to the facebook group, send a personal message to any of the active members in this thread giving your facebook name and we'll arrange to add you.

Our next meeting has been planned for 13th January and we are reading Anne Tyler "Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant" - I'm not sure whether a venue has been confirmed yet, it may be the Tobacco Factory as it is south-of-the-river's turn.

Consensus on FB seems to be that our chosen book was actually A Spell of Winter. Lots of second-hand copies on Amazon or Abebooks, and also available on kindle.

I keep forgetting about this thread. Just posted on FB - can't remember which Helen Dunmore we decided on, but have a feeling it was Your Blue-Eyed Boy - anyone remember differently?

Thought I'd bump this thread so that any newcomers can find us.

And I can't remember which Helen Dunmore book we decided on...

Hi Mutley, just posted on the FB group as well, but it's 8pm at the Clifton Wine Bar on Queen's Road, between the students' union and Victoria Square.

Anyone else not on the FB group yet and wants to DM their details?

I might have to leave you and form a much more salubrious and intellectual group for Bradfordians. I have only just noticed the truly vile shade of mustard bile my kitchen is painted, so may have no time for reading, urgent trip to Wickes required.

You are ALL racists. .

Meeting at the ASDA MacDonalds would be an enriching experience and would in no way involve lots of people screaming at each other until security arrives

Report
MrsWembley · 24/07/2013 08:15

Oh, at that time of night would there not be too many screaming babies and men walking around in their pyjama bottoms? Too distracting...

Totally racist, me. To make it more authentic, should we not be meeting in the Asdal cafe?

You are a founding member! Has it not popped up on your FB by now? Spero has found it. Look on the left hand side of your home page, under groups - should be there.
