I’ve been sticking to a low calorie/carb diet 800-900 calories and doing 16:8 fasting. Exercise wise I’ve been trying to do 10,000 steps ,but averaging around 7,000 daily. I have just started couch to 5k.

I’m 83.5kg (down from 90.6 on 17th May), so have lost 7.1kg in about 6 weeks, which seems to be about right f rom what I read. I weigh and track everything I eat on MFP.

However, I haven’t lost anything in the past couple of weeks and although I know weight loss isn’t linear, it’s very discouraging. My BMI has just come out of the obese range and is sitting right at the top of the ‘overweight’ category, so it’s not as if I don’t have lots to lose. I still have around 3 stone to lose to get down to a reasonable weight.

Any advice? Should I just keep going as I am? I’m trying to up the exercise and will go to the gym once they reopen to work on building some muscle. Is there anything else I can do in the meantime?

You’re not eating enough and are unlikely to stick to it long term. Not saying that is why you’re not losing weight but you’re only going to be able to keep it off if you adopt a healthy lifestyle that you can stick to long term. If I were you I’d probably double those cals and stick with the exercise. That’s what I have been doing and am 26 lbs down. When you’re obese and overweight you can eat quite a bit and still lose. There’s no point depriving yourself if you don’t have to.

Thanks Mrs.

No, I’m not including my exercise calories and scan the barcodes and double check the calories are correct. However, there may well be an element of error which I haven’t accounted for, so I will be extra careful.

I am quite bad at drinking water so I’m trying to work on that.

I’ll certainly take a look at that link and just keep going. Hopefully the scales will start moving again soon!

Are you adding your exercise onto MFP and eating back the calories ‘earned’? If so then don’t-I made that mistake. Also don’t necessarily trust the calories other people have added onto MFP. I was eating something someone had entered in as 80 calories. I was happily eating one or two as a treat. When I put the recipe in myself and calculated the cals they were 260 for each small portion!

But well done on your weight loss, try not to be disheartened, the scales will move again. This guy on insta talks a lot of sense
