Has anyone got one? And has anyone tried to loose weight by substituting meals with them?

Phynnbarr I don't remember any disruption. Maybe when I come to think of it I'm a bit more regular now. But nothing weird or alarming.

I'm sorry. I said vitamix in my post above, I meant nutribullet! The vitamix is no doubt fab but certainly not neat and compact!

Be careful not to overload on veg is best advice phynn! I went a bit too hardcore with it when I first got my nutribullet and the drink was not very nice and I had terrible stomach cramps an hour or two later (not diaorreah). Don't skimp on the fruit to begin with but you can gradually adjust it down for taste and digestion (your digestion does adapt too) Smile. The book that comes with it, with recipes, is v good, and there are lots on the internet too.

Can I ask, and I know there have been some pretty frank discussions on Mumsnet, but does taking in all these greens all of a sudden have a . . . . disruptive effect on your digestion? should I stay away from the tube for a while :)

I'm not calorie counting or trying to lose weight but would say pretty much word for word, what Pixiemops said in her first paragraph. I can't stomach much breakfast before a yoga class in the morning and a smoothie (usually spinach, kale, frozen berries, a bit of pineapple, coconut oil, chia seeds and supergreen powders with coconut water) is the perfect answer. I CBA to argue about the science behind the absorption of nutrients etc, I prefer to trust my body and I feel great when I regularly drink a green smoothie. The Vitamix is expensive but it is very efficient and easy to clean and (1st world issue Wink) it looks nice and neat on my kitchen worktop, unlike a big juicer or blender.

I've had a nutribullet for three months and I use it every morning. To be honest I'm not convinced particularly by all that extraction pseudo science stuff. I just think that eating those greens for breakfast plus some healthy fruit feels way better in my body and lasts much longer than a cereal breakfast. My skin has improved, my digestion has improved and my energy levels are way better.
My other half, who never used to eat breakfast, is a complete convert. He takes a smoothie to work every day for breakfast as he is reading his morning email.
I fill half a cup up with spinach and broccoli, lettuce, pak choi or kale although kale's a little bit fibrous/chewy for me. The rest of the cup I put in some fruits, avocado, some seeds or nuts. I split the cup into two portions and I calorie count each smoothie. There are usually about 250 calories per portion. I only replace breakfast and very occasionally I have a dessert type naughty smoothie after dinner if I've got calories left in the day.
I think compared to the Vitamix it is good value and it's incredibly easy to clean. No black liquid, no leaking and I ram mine full past the max line :).

Isn't it true that only one blended soup or smoothie 'counts' towards your 5 a day? Think the OP mentioned two.

Also, those that bought these in January, have you continued to use them or are they just taking up shelf space? I've read about them on the EL FB page, so genuinely curious.

If it helps, I bought a Nutribullet and I've lost over a stone in 2 months. I just substituted my lunch for a healthy smoothie from the books that came with the Nutribullet...I wouldn't say it was easy exactly but I've tried harder diets!

I got mine from www.nutribulletuk.co.uk they were the cheapest I could find and it came quickly Smile

i read about this in a magazine, yes it's pricey, but my juicer has sat forlornly in a cupboard for months as i hate cleaning it.
definitely want to get plenty of fruit and veg in as planning to ttc later this year and i am too lazy to eat my 5 a day

I use a Vitamix. I make 'Green Smoothies' and have two per day. You should definitely try one as they are an excellent way of getting lots of vegetables and fruit into your diet. Also good if you are wanting to lose weight.

I love mine. It can make buckwheat and almond flour from the grain and nut and grind coffee beans with it.

Its a bloody powerful monster and can liquidise whole fruit.. What's not to love? Its also very sturdy and has few parts, unlike juicers which have plasticky bits that are impossible to clean

Also my kids cannot believe I made a soup that was not grey (I am the worlds worse cook, everything turns out grey and my soups usually need a knife to slice them.) stuck in tomatoes, red pepper, carrot, onion and garlic and mixed herbs and a bit of olive oil, 10 seconds in the Nutribullet and a few minutes in the pan and 2 bowls of soup.

Remember Mini lypocene which anti carciogenic is in red things like tomatoes, peppers and carrots.

Had mine for 2 days and there is no comparison between this and the blenders I have had in the past. The speed in which it operates is amazing. 10 seconds and everythings done. No more trying to scrape clumps down from the sides, no more clumps getting stuck beneath the blade and no more faff washing lids, blades and "bowls" out. Everything is a simple rinse out.

Definitely recommend it.

We got one a week ago, it's great, so easy to use and clean. I'm eating, well drinking, far more greens than I did before.

belatedly... mommi you call it sarcasm. I call it scientific fact.

Fact is not horrible. I'm telling you that you have been fooled by babble. All this simple science is taught in school.

it makes me sad that people are so gullible, and that there are scammers who prey on them. It would make me happier if people knew more simple science.

I also see that you are ill. Hope you improve.

Milly the Kenwood worked fine, have you been putting enough liquid in?

Report
MILLYMOLLYMANDYMAX · 03/01/2014 23:01

Have had loads of blenders over the years but they never blend everything without a load of faff of trying to scrape stuff down from the sides and end up with more left in the jug than in the glass.

Sorry to hear about your chemo, Mommi. I hope it does help your energy levels.

Just as an aside, I bought mine from Ideal World TV in four installments so that made it much more affordable.

Sorry should have said most common question people ask is about nutrients, read it all the time on the web pages I've been reading.

I've read the same stuff as you catelyn which is why I've been so keen to try them, Some of the questions people commonly ask when they first enter the world of green smoothies...

I think to break down all the fiber and cellulose in green leaves, you would have to spend quite a few hours a day chewing. In a Green Smoothie, the blender does the chewing for you, blending all the greens into very small pieces. Green Smoothies can actually give more nutrition because it’s blended.

I can't wait to do this daily now, I was so surprised at how nice the green smoothie tasted. It just tasted like a banana smoothie to me. Mine had frozen pineapple, mango, melon, papaya and kiwi chunks in it, water, a banana and a huge handful of spinach in it. What's more, my eight year old loved it! I'm hoping it's going to help with my fatigue problems from the chemotherapy.
