Would you think we were mad with these table decorations?

We are really not doing the big fancy wedding thing and running on a very tight budget so our reception (DJ and buffet in a local social club) will be nothing fancy either but the one thing I would like is some half decent table decorations but with a budget this is proving hard to find.

There will be about 10 tables (about 60 people) so I thought maybe 3 big red apples with holes to fit tealights in, with a scattering of black rose petals and silver pieces of rock individually wrapped along the length of the table.

Oh this would be on white paper table cloths :o

What about some of those tissue pom-poms. They are really easy to make and very cheap.

Ikea do great coloured paper napkins which will jazz up the buffet table

Linen napkins :o

We've gone for the local dingy social club, we'll be lucky if they hoover the carpet... Classy :o

To be fair we're not having a meal or anything there and my mum is doing a buffet so don't need anything particularly fancy.

Nope nothing but they were quite thick bases.

Your venue may be able to fan coloured paper napkins into their linen ones.

Napkins... I hadn't even thought of napkins (useless emoticon)

I like idea of wine glasses/pot puree stuff, did you have to put anything on the bases, I wasn't sure if they'd shatter with heat.

or this onee

the most important thing is to make everything match, same mix of colours for flowers, napkins, etc that always looks good x

Join pinterest - there are loads of really good do it yourself wedding ideas (including the apples).

My mum and I are going to trial an apple at the weekend to see how doable it is.

I've seen a few tutorials online where they position the tealight and kind of score round it with a sharp knife then cut an x through the centre, dig it out a little at a time until you get the right depth.

I may change my mind but for now the idea is there :o

I did kind of twig on the Twilight thing but not really bothered about the similarity.

I hate plants and flowers so that is definitely not an option other than the silk massacred rose petals.

We also live in the sticks so unless you can get it from a supermarket or online its pretty impossible to get anything and I think that for our budget plain tealight holders are about all we'll get which I feel are a bit dull.

We do have some black and silver confetti shiny confetti type stuff but I keep changing my mind.

At this rate I will be putting tealights out and saying feck it because none actually gives a crap anyway me included :o

Is it a Snow White theme?
Not sure I can picture it tbh.
Could you not go to ikea or the range and get some cheap red tea light holders?

Depending on the table sizes it might be a bit lost. Have seen similar with pumpkins but obviously they were much bigger.

Went to a wedding recently where all the tables were different with different sized vases, tea cups, candelabras, jam jars and candle holders on.

The bride went to poundshops, charity shops and asked to borrow them from friends and family. She hired one candelabra and one large martini glass.
She ordered a load of spring flowers from Morrisons and just chucked them in the vases.
It looked stunning, the best decorations I have seen for a while and was very cheap.

Looks lovely

To cut out just take the wax out of one tea light and use that as a cutout, perfect size everytime.

You could possibly use an empty tealight case to cut the hole depending on how sturdy it is. I wouldn’t use petals either, I’d go for crystally things like these www.homebargains.co.uk/products/7543-special-occasion-scatter-crystals-x-12-bags.aspx

Njgella made these apples on one of her shows with a special cutter that made the perfect sized hole.

Yes to a cutter the right size.
And apples will brown much slower if you simply rinse them out with cheap supermarket lemon juice.

I wouldn't bother with the rose petals if you are on a budget. They might not last, might stain etc etc and don't bring as much to the overall look as the tea light holders, for example

Buy an apple corer but don't cut all the way through and then just use the corer to take extra bits out until you get the right diameter and depth to fit your tea light then paste on a bit of lemon juice into the hole to prevent the apple going brown.

I also did homemade table decorations on the cheap. I went to the garden centre and bought plants in cheap terracotta pots. That way I got to give them to people as thank you gifts for things they had done for the wedding.

I bet you can find a biscuit cutter just the right size for the tea lights if you hunt around a cookware shop,
