School closures thread

Just been discussing school closures on the Glasgow local pages and thought it might be useful to have a separate thread to spread the word if anyone knows about school closures. I can start the list by saying:

South Lanarkshire: all schools and council nurseries will be closed on Thursday (situation for Friday to be reviewed)

West Lothian: all schools shut for the rest of this week.

Please feel free to add to the list, wherever you are.

Hurray DS1 back at school for first time since 26th Nov. DS2 primary still closed and not likely to open before Monday.

Falkirk area.

A bit milder today so may walk down to the village to see what supplies I can get. I wonder if the little chemist sells any decent perfume/aftershave that I could give for presents. Charlie Tweed or Panache all round!

What amazes me is that my children all knew that their Renfrewshire school was shut tomorrow before it was on either the Renfrewshire website or the school one. Bloomin' efficient grapevine.

So - downside is children underfoot tomorrow, but upside is not having to get up early to make sure they go to school.

M77 was OK, but St Andrews Drive, Dumbreck Road, Pollokshaws Road and the road that goes past National Savings (Barrhead Road) were all rutted ice

I was glad I was driving on them when the roads were quiet.

Having braved a drive from Pollokshields to Silverburn (for something I should have been able to do on-line but for various petty reasons couldn't), which was pretty hairy even though I know how to drive in snow and ice, I can understadn why the advice is still not to drive unless absolutely necessary.

Literally just updated on GCC's twitter site: Glasgow school will remain closed tomorrow, 9th December.

I suspect that given that the police told advised Glasgow City Coucil not to open the school tomorrow on safety grounds that all the schools that were shut today will be shut tomorrow.

All West Dunbartonshire Council schools and nurseries will be closed again tomorrow, Wednesday.

It wouldn't be so bad but it's too cold for the kids to go out to play in it so they're stuck in all day, while it's -7 outside.

Just checked the Renfrewshire website, and all Renfrewshire schools, under-5 centres and social work day centres are closed tomorrow (Wednesday) but they expect them to be open again on Thursday.

I have just given ds1 the good news (ds2 and ds3 are out with their friends) and he is very chuffed. Since we moved up here from Essex, their old schools have had several snow days, and they haven't had a single one until today, and were feeling distinctly miffed by this.

It's very annoying isn't it? At least South Lanarkshire have been fairly good about announcing the blanket closures ahead of time.

What makes me very is the Glasgow City Council twitter feed still doesn't say that.

Parents need to know as soon as possible so that they can make alternative arrangements.

So at least I'm doing my bit by trying to get the message out. :)
