Tuesday snow

Some severe conditions for parts of Yorkshire and NE england again. Parts of Scotland too. Mixture of showers - light and heavy snow, some drizzle for many of the rest of us.

We have a very light covering where I am but the main area of snow has been much slower than predicted last night. I don't expect to see huge accumulations in the south today and it may end up being a bit of a wet mix at times.

I will always forgive you Kitten.

Anyway, sticking with you, meant I faced a day at work yesterday, with no hope of snow and was then pleasantly suprised when we were sent home and not in today! Hurrah!

It doesn't look great for tomorrow either!

I have a disclaimer on my profile about getting things wrong Mo!!! No-one should ever rely on what I say. You are right though, the snow was much more significant than the models showed in the morning, tis ever the way with snow forecasting you either get bucketloads when it shows a sprinkle or none when it shows a blizzard and Thames snow is a bloody nightmare.

Yes Maureen, exactly!!

Felt like a right muppet this am trudging in with my wellies, had, hood, huuuge coat (and about 3 layers underneath all of that) and 2 pairs of gloves combo Confused

Oh Valpollicella, I used to hate that!

You leave home to work in London, only 10 miles away. Dressed up in moon boots, hat, scarf, gloves and a full length puffer coat, arrive in London and feel a complete plum because there isn't any snow! Grin

Now then. I'm not one to 'diss' Kitten, she is a rl MN friend to me (we spent half a day in London together last April! Grin) however I would like to draw your attention to her opening post.

Unquote.

I have just measured the depth of the not huge accumulations in the South today! It measures 15cms!! Grin Oh, and it hasn't stopped bloody snowing since 7am and it's still snowing now!!

Still, home from school by 1pm today and snow day tomorrow, so I'll forgive you! WinkGrin

I love that at home we have a very healthy covering (and its still coming down) at about 4 cm. But 14 miles up the road as it were, in London where I work, it's been snowing all day and nothing has stuck!

I resorted to showing pics on FB that local friends had posted today to make sure work knew that even though I'm not that far away tomorrow may be a no show from me (or a if I get in at 11am looking blue on the edges, it's not because I had a lie in! Grin)

15cm on the bin lid....deeper in parts due to drifting. im not in the sticks either! some parts of north yorks are knee deep. dont think i should risk the 70 mile round trip to work tomorrow....

Vicar - how much do you reckon you have now?

Meg, I'm not sure about tomorrow, the snow centered around the Thames area seems to be rebuilding itself and suffolk may get the top end of that. After that I'm afraid it gets even woolier - met office reckon snow in suffolk thursday night. I think its case of having plans and acting on them at short notice. I'm really sorry I can't offer more advice.

OYBBK how is Suffolk looking for the next couple of days?

We're moving from London to Norfolk on Fri (I hope!) and I was supposed to be taking the DC to my mum's in Kent until the weekend but it has been snowing heavily all day there and not looking like stopping any time soon. Plan B is my dad's in rural Suffolk, as long as I can get there!!

DD thought it was very exciting to walk to preschool in snow, until it got so deep it went over her wellies which I've just measured at 7 inches high! Seriously!
Kent SE London Borders.
I was pushing DS in three wheeler so we made it but both of us fell over. I stayed there rather than do the trip all over and had enormous fun.

My neighbour helped his elderly cat out at 4 then locked himself out. He walked to us bare foot! DH helped him unscrew his double glazing to get back in.

And DH car got hit first thing, but he got to work 20 miles away down M20, stayed couple of hours and turned back home, which took 3 1/2 hours.

Not surprisingly I'm having a large glass of wine.

you are welcome Jalopy :)

nikki - just luck really. There has been a bit of a Thames streamer and Croydon was one of the biggest beneficiaries. Some more lighter snow overnight, but the biggest problem will be ice. Sounds like it has been a nightmare.
