Weaning

What did your baby actually eat today?

NellyBluth · 26/01/2013 18:14

I thought it might be interesting, and also hopefully inspirational for those of us who might feel we're making the same things regularly! So, what did your baby - 6m to 18m, any age that still has some milk and might be playing around with weaning - actually eat today?

12mo DD had...

4oz formula when she woke up
A bowl of Shreddies and the rest of the formula (2oz) for breakfast
Some sultanas is mid-morning
Chicken and lentil stew and some tinned mandarin segments for lunch
A considerable amount of Pizza Express pizza crust to keep her distracted while we ate Blush - my parents were over and food always seems to go downhill when they are here, plus it did at least keep her amused
4oz milk before her nap
A banana when she woke up
A pile of plain cauliflower and broccoli, a kiwi, and a fromage frais for dinner
Then it will be 6oz of formula before bed

Anyone else wants to share?

I like this thread, still getting lots of inspiration.

13mo had yesterday...

6oz cow's milk at breakfast and bedtime, 4oz in the afternoon
Banana and raisin porridge for breakfast
Pasta shells with pesto and mixed frozen veg, I feel that this is going to be a new staple as it is so ridiculously cheap (and I thought the pasta-pesto thing was a bit of a myth, but apparently not!), fromage frais, and blueberries
Some Ella's Kitchin biscuits as a treat, left-over from when she was ill the other week and refused to eat anything but biscuits

Then DP got caught up at work at DD had to stay an hour later at the CMs, who very kindly gave her some of their dinner, so she apparently had fish fingers, chips and beans, and she ate it like it was going out of fashion

I did end the day thinking that the CM's meal could be a cracking AIBU Grin
(I'm joking, obviously I'm extremely grateful she didn't mind us running late and happily made some extra food)

The Commanderling is being a bit of a refusenik at the moment - teething, I think, as well as a cold. And apparently she can no longer use her own hands unless she has a satsuma Hmm. Anyway, at the venerable age of 9 month 10 days:

Breastmilk
Porridge and half a banana (a sizeable bowl at that)
Breastmilk
2 arancini made from last night's butternut squash risotto
sucked on some cucumber; threw it on the floor
1 satsuma
A bit of panini which she ate happily because I wasn't watching
1 dried apricot
4 :( fusilli shapes with ratatouille
Fromage frais

2 breastfeeds still to come. She used to eat way more than this and has decided she likes purees and spoonfeeding... sigh!

13mo slightly under the weather and sulky today. 6oz milk and a massive bowl of muesli started the day well, but then it went downhill - a few spoons of chicken and tomato pasta went down before it got spat out, so all she had for lunch was about a dozen cheese (baby) crisps. Maybe 3oz of milk in the afternoon, a rice cake and a few raisins, and then for dinner she got maybe half of a half of (iyswim) cinnamon and raisin bagel, one little yoghurt, and a few mouthfuls of banana. Has refused everything else. Frustrating when she is usually a good eater!

I am not posting what my 14 month old DD eats. It's ridiculous and I have no idea where she puts it. Blush

Lois - by 7 months, my LO was having three 'meals' a day. By meal, I mean two ice-cubes of some sort of mashed food, plus a couple of fingers of toast/piece of veg or fruit.

Today he ate (aged 9.5 months)
3 7oz bottles
A few Cheerios (gone off breakfast this week)
Chicken and mushroom noodles for lunch
Handful of raisins as a wee snack
Tomato and veg pasta for dinner

DS almost 9mo has had a funny few days; I think his teething is putting him off eating things he has to make an effort to eat :( But he had a reasonable day.

6am - bf
7.30am - most of a pouch of banana and apricot porridge; a handful of Cheerios
9.30am - bf
12pm - a few corn ring thingies; slice of toast (milk roll) cut into pieces and dipped in spicy lentil dhal soup; a couple of spoons of the soup; about 1/3 of a strawberry yoghurt
2.30pm - bf
4pm - snacky bf
5pm - sweet potato, red pepper and broccoli pieces, eventually mashed up and from a spoon because he was resistant to eating them in chunks today; the rest of the yoghurt
6.45pm - bf (bedtime)

bf on waking
heinz baby cereal at about 8.30am
bf at 12
bf at 3
about two tablespoons chicken, butternut and parsnip casserole stuff roughly mashed at 4.45

She'll very probably wake at least once for bf in the night. Sometimes (most days) she has some finger food to play with at lunch with me but it didn't work out today. Next week I shall introduce lunch properly!

Grin

Stop comparing to other babies!

They're all different.

You don't hear of babies or children being starved when there is food readily available and offered, that's because they're not starved, they're thriving and happy. Just offer and they'll either take it or reject it or wind you up and throw it on the floor! Grin

OK, 16mo twins, have had a good-ish couple of days:

Breakfast
Handful of Cheerios to keep them occupied whilst I sort things out
Share a banana
Porridge sweetened type

No mid-morning snack

Lunch
Tuna and cream cheese wraps
Cucumber, if at nursery (thrown on floor if at home!)
Goodies oatcake thing
Ellas fruit smoothie sachet (bear with me here...)

Afternoon snack
Sticks of cheese
Dried apricots

Dinner
Beef & mushroom casserole (beef roughly blended as they're odd about meat texture)
Peas & mashed potato
Slice banana cake
Yoghurt
Raisins while I clear up

No fruit of any kind other than bananas. Two weeks ago I couldn't get enough fruit into them - bananas, pears, plums, peaches, grapes, blueberries, strawberries, clementines, pineapple, mango, sometimes melon, occasionally apple, all devoured. Now universally rejected except banana Hmm. Hence the smoothies. Babies are wierd

I know every baby is different but I'm surprised how much/little some of them eat.
Now I'm wondering whether DS is getting enough but no way I'm going to offer him formula during the day if I could still bf him.

He's 8 mo and having just 1 7oz formula at bedtime.Tonight he drank just 5oz as he gummed nearly whole toast with avocado and creamy cheese earlier on.

He's bf during the night (a couple of times) and in the morning, then has some strawberry&banana porridge followed by yoghurt with fruit.Offered breast during a day,he takes it but there's still milk left.Sometimes a biscuit or rice cake during a day but after bf.

He's got chunky legs and 3 spare tyres on his tummymanboobs, full cheeks. He'a very alert and smiley happy soul but I'm still questioning if he eats enough.

Somebody please slap me.

I think we were up to 3 meals with our twins by about 9 months. Took it very slowly as DD was reluctant to eat anything at all at first (although DS was keen) and didn't want to push her. At 14.5 months still don't offer 2 x snacks - sometimes 1, sometimes none. 3 very good meals though.

McPhee I'm impressed how much your LO 6.5 mo eats :). How long did it take to get up to that much food? I only started weaning about 10 days ago and have only given some fruit/veg once a day at lunch so far. She's just shy of 6 mo so thinking I should be upping what I'm offering? I was surprised she's been gobbling stuff up so maybe I'm being stingy.

How soon did everyone start 'offering' 3 meals/snacks?
