Do you believe in ghosts?

Had friend and her partner over for dinner and we got talking about the supernatural. I’ll be honest I was rather surprised when she casually said she’d seen ghosts quite regularly (she works in a hospital) so my question is, do you believe in the supernatural?

I’m on the fence as I’ve never experienced anything like that myself however I’m open minded on the subject 👻

I have also been reading a about Birdie Friend and then the OP disappeared after son told all the kids at nursery ‘you’ll be dead soon’
Where is the OP has she come back yet? I need my next installation of Birdie Friend 😫😳

I have just been reading about Birdie Friend on another thread and came to find if there is a 'woo' chat.
We regularly visit Edinburgh and do ghost tours, a few I've felt uncomfortable on but not necessarily seen anything. I think I might have, but nothing clear enough to determine if its active imagination or genuinely something there.
The last we went on, I felt nothing.
Like NOTHING
My husband is adamant he was touched, as is my son and I have a photo of my daughter with a face behind her. Sometimes I look at the photo I can see a dogs face as well - but her face is always smudged by a mans face. Every photo I took near the mausoleum is blurred, every photo before and after is crisp and clear.

Not at all. I've never seen anything in person or heard any stories from others that can't be explained.

There are also a hell of alot more dead people than living ones.

If they were real they would be everywhere - E V E R Y W H E R E... and there would be not a doubt in the world they existed given how many would cover the earth.

Wouldn't need staged "ghost hunter shows" with their "proof" etc... Nope don't believe at all. Don't believe in aliens either.

I have never seen anything that would make me believe, but DB has and he is such a genuine person that it's swayed me to feeling like there is a possibility.

He has a lot of stories all of which happened in Japan where he has lived for the past 10 years. In the early days when he was out there for uni, he was in his student halls about to fall asleep when he felt what felt like two hands suddenly gripping onto his arm. He shot up and turned the light on, nothing there. He went and sat in McDonald's for the rest of the night as he was so freaked out. Could be no connection but sadly, it turned out another student had hung herself in her dorm room that night.

DB found it quite eerie that following this, they keep her room light on as a mark of respect, so when the buildings lights are all out at night the only light on will be where the girl died.

I'm a sceptical believer I think.

Never actually seen anything, but we moved to a new house 3 months ago, and in that time, all 3 DCs have seen a dog in the kitchen, a dog that disappears when they call it, DP has seen the same dog in the garden and twice I have been woken by a dog barking in our bedroom.

We don't have a dog!!

I see stuff, feel stuff, even smell stuff and there is no explanation for it.
Used to scare the living bejesus out of me but now I’m just mildly scared on occasion! Best ones were getting hit in the head so my hair moved and having my pillow moved from under my head. Sometimes I smell perfume but it’s not mine. These things happen while I’m alone with doors and windows shut. I see shadows at night in my bedroom moving about. I just dick and cover as the saying goes.

I see ghosts everywhere. I always have done, ever since I was little so it's normal to me.

I'm from a travelling family and several of my relatives see them too.

My mum doesn't and we have to be careful around her as although she believes (mainly due to things me and my siblings have said) she gets freaked out.

I'm slightly on the fence re this. I don't believe in supernatural stuff but I think too many people have seen things. There must be something going on, they can't all be imagining it. I don't think ghosts are what most people think they are though, i.e. dead people consciously visiting people/places. I suspect there's a scientific explanation for it. I know some people believe ghosts are some kind of recording of something that happened in the past that replays over and over again. I've read a bit about time slips, maybe that could explain it as well. The idea that what we're seeing is actually happening in another time and somehow that time and our time has overlapped. I could believe in that.

It’s not for people who don’t believe in ghosts to prove they don’t exist - those making the extraordinary claim need to provide the evidence.

You think some sort of spirit keeps on existing, independent of the human body. What is your proof for that?

@poster M0nkeybutler Ooh what a great account! Thanks very much for posting. Exactly the kind of thing I find fascinating.

Any more, anyone?

I always used to think that I would believe it if I experienced anything, but never really believing that I would...
Until I started work at the school I am currently Head Teacher at. I'm here alone a lot. Next to my office are the shutters for the canteen, which occasionally will rattle a little if there's a strong wind. But recently they've started banging like someone is battering their fists against them. I've also heard laughter - child's and adult's. I've seen someone walk past the kitchen window when there was nobody there, I've seen someone walk past a small window in an internal door when the only people in the building were with me in that room. There have been things appear on a table that people were looking for when they categorically weren't there a minute before and no one else could have put them there. Today, I opened a door to leave a classroom and what I thought was a child or a stooping adult ducked under my arm and pushed past me as I held the door open. I turned round to berate whoever it was for being impatient, and there was no one there.

I never feel uncomfortable here, never afraid, there's a really happy feeling in this building. I'm just not a fan of being here alone any more! And being called out at three in the morning when the alarm goes off to a rural school with no external lighting... Well that's just a joy!

I have no idea if ghosts exist or not. I've seen a few weird things, but who knows, maybe it's just the workings of the human mind?
What I love is when people say categorically that ghosts do not exist. They can say that with confidence, because they have proof. Right?

I lived in a house when I was little where inexplicable stuff happened. For example, my brother's tonka truck (it had a skip on the back) was full to the brim with water one morning. There were no leaks in the ceiling, and neither myself nor my brother would have had the wherewithall to fill it so full. We've never known why it happened. We used to hear breathing.

I saw things as a child when living in a very old house that can't be explained and have been corroborated by others who didn't know my experiences. I could not be less woo but I think there are things we are not yet able to explain with current scientific knowledge.

Nah. We've managed to document creatures that live in the deepest part of the ocean so you'd expect there to be some evidence by now. Was talking to my sister some years ago when I said similar and she said 'you need to watch some videos on YouTube' and then looked confused when I laughed.

Any more? A pub I used to frequent had funny acoustics in their ladies toilets. Many of us would hear indistinguishable hushed conversations in the next cubicle, an empty one! Definitely a close up sound that would almost drift in and drift away again (like it was voices caight in a bubble.) Not when I was too tiddly either. Grin

Yes, I have memories of seeing "ghosts" going back as far as 5. Some positive & some negative. I lived with a negative one for 4 years, convincing myself it couldn't physically hurt me. That was until the day it threw a knife at me. Leaving that flat I realised that fire, flood & pestilenceI kid you not we're probably also down to it. Still makes me shudder to this day

My friend's previous house was odd. We'd hear women's voices in the kitchen, from the living room, quite muffled. Also a shaky balloon, those large ones that have rice inside of them. It terrified me and I'm usually a cynical sceptic! My pal found out the house used to be a flower shop years before and she'd often have lovely wafts of floral smells when walking in and out of rooms downstairs.

Some great stories here! Any more?

I know somebody who has moved into luxury flat in what used to be a mental hospital, and whenever I drive past I wonder whether the residents have any odd experiences. I couldn't live in a place like that Shock

As a child I was lying on the sofa at my grandparents house when a choir of around ten boys and an older man in choir-style robes marched past the end of the sofa and through the wall towards the front of the house. There was no noise but I could see that they looked like they were singing.i was stunned. My grandad was sat watching the television oblivious to them.
He laughed when I told him.
I am still bewildered.
The strange thing is that straight opposite the house is the village church.
I visited and for many years lived in this house. I never saw them again. There was a 'strange' atmosphere sometimes though ( before and after I saw this apparition). My mum had strange experiences living there as a teen.

I do. Could never live in a house converted from a hospital or similar, too spooky for me. A local prison is being converted into luxury flats and I don’t know how anyone could comfortably live in them.
