Horsebox costs

Hi all
I'm going to be buying a horsebox early next year with my friend. We're looking at a transit conversion for about £12k. She's much more experienced than me (I've never owned a box or trailer) so I'll be letting her take the lead and paying half of everything, does anyone have an idea of approximate costs for insurance, servicing etc? Just for my planning spreadsheet!

I had a professional van conversion done last year and one of my musts was as high a payload as possible, and it came in at just under 1200kg which is fine as i transport ponies. Wouldn't want anything bigger than 15hh max in though, and that's with the roof being raised slightly.

Yes, she was looking for more like 1,200kg.
Might have to widen our search!

I think the average payload on a transit conversion is around 1100kg, which is going to be a stretch with 2 horses, tack, haynets, water, all the other kit you need plus fuel.

We'd be transporting two horses normally 15.1hh and 16.1hh so that's good to know. She used to have a 7.5 so wants something smaller but need to get the balance to be able to fit the horses in!

This is quite a good H&H post about costs etc (it's old now but scale up for inflation ). They are classed as being a van not an HGV I think so insurance and tax should be similar to a van of the same age/value...

Do be super careful with the transit conversions, I have heard some horror stories about ones being done on the cheap and ending up really dangerous, plus even with a well done one the payload is going to be low (unless you both have quite small ponies I am not sure you will fit 2 into a transit conversion safely) and the ramp high, so some horses don't load well into one...
