Do you have insurance (for yourself, not your horse) and can you recommend any insurance?

Hopefully going to be taking a horse on part-share soon.

It has occurred to me that I should get some insurance (for myself - I assume the horse will be insured by its owner but will double check).

Can any recommend any rider insurance?

Thanks

NFU were recommended to us for DD's rider insurance and were very helpful.

The girl who had dhorse on part loan for a while joined the BHS which apparently meant she also got personal insurance cover automatically. Worth checking out.

I joined Countryside Alliance as they have public liability insurance as part of the membership. However this only covers damage to 3rd parties (e.g. pony damaging a car) not personal injury

British horse society gold membership - gives 3rd party and rider insurance for £68 per year

I think the BHS Gold membership includes Public Liability Insurance up to £10 million but the Personal Accident Insurance is only up to £10,000, which is not really a lot if you had a very serious accident and had to give up your job, for example.

I also have an income protection scheme which covers my income in the event I can no longer work due to illness / injury and I checked with the insurance provider to make sure horse riding is not excluded.

I have a rider insurance with E&L which is just under a fiver a month. The think the reason I picked E&L was it also has some vet cover for when I was riding as well. I don't think the BHS one does (but I might be wrong) and I could pay monthly unlike the BHS one.

However, also like the above poster, I also have an income protection as well in place as a completely separate insurance policy as no rider policies cover much and if I had a serious accident, I would need the extra money coming in. I went straight back to work after my last serious accident (fractured spine!) as I couldn't afford the time off work. Granted, I was lucky enough to work from home so could sit on my bed, supported by lots of pillows and with laptop!
