Retrained Racehorse help please!

Ok so out of the blue dd has been asked to take my friends hunter in ridden racehorse at the big upcoming local show. It is just for fun really but my friend can get a bit snobby about showing so I don't want to let her down by getting it wrong Grin

What should dd be wearing ideally and what wouild we "get away with" if we were pushed. I don't have the money to go out for new jackets etc for one class but may be able to borrow some bits and pieces if our stuff is not suitable.

I don't generally have anything to do with TBs so this is totally out of my comfort zone! Thank you in advance for any ideas or thoughts (oh, dd is under 16 if that is important)

Lol yes saggy hence the questions, he is happy with his bits and he panics with anything new. Takes him ages to accept change so would really like to leave him alone in that department!

Oh, and if you are going to change the bit, please please try it out and practice for a few days before hand!

You could trawl the local charity shops for a brown tweed jacket. There's usually loads about.

Well dd is 15 4 days before the show so that is lucky! The horse has raced and is registered so that works. I have no idea if it is affiliated or not to be honest, although it is local to us it is a large show if you see what I mean.

She will be wearing her skull cap with a blue velvet silk which probably isn't perfect but I hate show caps with a passion so would rather take the mark down on that one.

I am not sure what to do about bit though, she usually rides him in a 2 ring although she can ride him in his hanging cheek we usually use the 2 ring as she is little and he is 17.2 so a lot of horse for her to hold (not that she has ever needed to hold him it is a belt and braces thing) Do you think she would be ok with a hanging cheek? Would the 2 ring mean she would be effectively out of it alltogether?

Her tweed is blue (as she has it to show her blue and white mare) I know working hunter should be brown tweed, do you think that will be an issue? I am not sure if I know anyone her size to borrow a brown tweed from!

Presumably cream jods? She does have long boots but she also has short boots and leather chaps so I may take both and decide on the day!

Thank you for your help Butkin, I really appreciate it! Smile

Not something we're involved in but have watched the classes at various shows.

If the class is affiliated to ROR/Tattersalls series they do have a few rules:

Riders must be 15+
Horses must have raced and be registered with Weatherbys and ROR
Hard hats with chinstraps
Ridden in snaffle, pelham or simple double bridle
Plaited

All the classes we've watched the riders dressed like for riding a hunter with tweed jackets and blue velvet hats.

If it is at a local show it may not be affiliated but I'd still wear show hunter gear.

Not sure what to say about boots. Adults would always wear black long boots but not sure about your DD if she is under 16.
