Hi all!

Hope everyone is well?
Does anyone if your employer (headteacher) is allowed to ring the hospital ward you are on to speak to you?

For context I’d rang School an hour ago & spoken to someone to let them know I will not be returning, my condition, my ward & when I will be in touch next.

Any advice welcome 🤗

They have a duty of care towards you. I would want to know that a member of my staff was ok.
Are you never returning or just not returning today? I would expect regular contact with a member of staff who is off sick - weekly contact from senior member of staff if needed. They will need to be in touch until they get your letter of resignation.

I would assume you should be left alone when in hospital.

During school holidays I became extremely ill. I was admitted to hospital and not well enough to speak to anyone, or look at emails.

My husband contacted school on my behalf and I was not contacted directly. TBH I wouldn't have been able to speak cohearantly if they had contacted me.

I was off for a whole term but I was not contacted. (when I was a little better I stayed in touch by email, but for the time I was unable to communicate they took my husbands word for it)

You gave them the information about the hospital and the ward - that inclinates to me that you’d be happy to receive some contact.

They probably just wanted to check in with you and make sure you are ok - they do have a duty of care.
