Just this really, teaching is all I’ve ever done. Almost 20 years and I think I’ve had enough.
What else can I do? Anyone been in the same position? They say teacher are leaving the profession in droves…where are they going and what are they doing?!!

Following with interest. Teaching is well paid compared to most jobs near me. Without cutting my salary in half I'm struggling to know what to do.

I am starting a therapy/counselling course in Sep to qualify in that area. Currently doing supply and online tutoring. Hate teaching now, and even supply has been causing physical symptoms from the stress. Been applying for retail work but nothing came of it.

I'm going to retire in 2 years when I'm 57 and get a job in the NHS in an admin role to top up my pension.

I've just had a Dojo message (why I looked at the stupid app I don't know as I don't work on a Friday 😡) and have had a message from a parent asking why her sons homework hasn't been acknowledge for 3 weeks. This parent is a headteacher. Her son is in Y1.

Totally my fault and I've apologised as I thought my TA was stamping them as she put the next weeks in. I should have checked.

Honestly, we are praising the kids all the time, lots of stickers and Dojos and house points but this is why I've had enough.

The expectations are just ridiculous. I wouldn't have even noticed if my son's homework hadn't been acknowledged.

Year 1 omg!!
FFS, as if you need the stress!
I'm sorry; it boils my piss for you!
Pour a large glass of wine/Gin and Tonic/Cider etc once you get home and remember, schools are crazy little worlds in which we are expected to do ridiculous things and nit pciked at for things which really do not matter x

Hi. I'm in my 60s. I think I have time for one career change.

I was a permanent teacher for about 10 years including time off for children.

Took some years out for caring responsibility and ended up Supply Teaching which I have now done for 10 years.

I am totally fed up with being long term and having to work at M1 , which I think I only get because my agency knows several schools want me. I think schools are getting back to pre-pandemic pay Supply as little as you can get away with.

Due to multiple bereavement I haven't done much about change this year. Last year I worked out I earned an average gross salary of £15,500 over 8 years, £17,500 over 6 years taking out 2 pandemic years. That is being available throughout school year and working most of it. Often changing subjects. And IT systems. And yet, some (not all) permanent teachers assume you must be absolutely hopeless...

I don't think there are many entry level jobs with lower salary...

And my current school are being very slow to confirm to 12 week agency rule.

I have absolutely had enough. Time to take time out and evaluate my skills...
