What next after teaching?

So after today I've decided I'm utterly done with teaching. Fed up of being sworn at and abused, and to top it all off today one of the teachers I share a class with ripped all their work out of their books after a horrible lesson with them, and told me she'd do it again with them as it wasn't good enough. Just because of the presentation. I'm fed up of ticking boxes that make absolutely no difference to kids' lives. I dread every day, and hate feeling like the weak link in the department. But I've got no clue where to go after this! Could anyone give me any suggestions?

I like stable, predictable work and pay, I quite like the idea of customer facing roles as I like to work with people, and I quite like admin/organising but have no experience. Where can I even start? What experience do I need? I saw a customer support job at a bank, is this a good path to go down? I know literally nothing outside of teaching!

So sorry to hear this. I can’t give good job switching advice but you have had an awful day. It almost sounds like bullying having work you did torn out of books.

Supply teaching is not stable and predictable but you’re free of the tick box culture. Could you take a drop in pay and train in eg Microsoft Office, bookkeeping while doing day to day supply? (Typically £120 a day depending where you live - annual equivalent just under £24,000 in the unlikely event you get work every school day).

My annual salary is about £10,000. COVID was a bad 2 years. Slightly balanced when I get a long term placement but that’s back to tick box culture (still less pressure than permanent though).

Main disadvantage is that some teachers view Supply as rubbish. It pays to have a very thick skin.

Teachers have lots of transferable skills for admin/customer service roles. Have a look on Indeed and LinkedIn and tailor a CV around the requirements of the role. Apply to anything and everything you’re interested in - can’t hurt to go to interviews and find out more about the roles. You could also have a career advisory session. Good luck!
