Teacher's understanding of Autism

Hi everyone,

I am looking for participants to take part in my research study investigating primary school teachers’ and classroom support staffs’ understanding of Autism, in hope of providing important information that will help us identify how to support those working with children with autism.

So, if you are currently a primary school teacher or member of classroom support staff I would be very grateful if you could spare five minutes to fill in this short questionnaire.

I understand how busy teachers are which is why I have tried to keep it as short as possible and I appreciate that things are particularly difficult at the moment so thank you for taking the time to read my post.

It's a very binary questionnaire, and you wrote fist instead of first on the ID generator question. Best of luck with your research.

Have completed. I hold the SENCO award (and have experience of being a SENCO) as well as being a class teacher, which I would imagine is very relevant - there was no mention of this. Also for the participant ID you're asked for the first two letters of your postcode - my postcode, like many, is one letter then 2 numbers.

I've done it. I am a 1:1 ta support for two children with ASD. I've only been in school a short time but my adult DS has ASD.

I have completed it although I think the question on special education services is poorly worded. This could mean ' I think that all children with ASD should be in special schools' or it could mean that all children with autism should have access to specialist support. I believe that all children with ASD will needs some special education provision in that they need some specialist support; I don't believe they all must attend special school.

Hate to be picky (and this really isn't my area!) but you need some plural apostrophes in teacher’s and classroom support staff’s understanding of because, presumably, you're asking more than one teacher and more than one support staff member? Should be "teachers' and classroom support staffs' understanding of..." (Sorry! DH is an English teacher, so it rubs off.)

I think most parents do expect teachers to understand the rules of basic grammar, and pretty sure your fellow teachers do too (or should do!). DH thinks all teachers (who don't teach English) should be able to write grammatically correct English... but he may have to compromise on that one
