Don't laugh!
Poor Obie is really matted again..usually he doesn't matt up til spring but his coat is astoundingly thick and he won't let any of his wives groom him (that's me and the other two women he frequents) I am going to have to book him in for a sedated shave ..I don't think they have any hope of just grooming it under sedation.

But it's winter... do you think I could possibly put a cat (or rather dog as he's 25 pounds) coat on him for the first week or so? I don't want him shivering but he will NOT stay in. Has anyone ever tried?

(and yes I'd post pics....)

I totally get that re the new vet - but I also think I'd be happier being a member of his harem, especially since I've also been offered Ollie and Mr C in the past - my meagre salary would not support all three! I could, however, afford to spoil all three totally rotten.

It is big shave day. He went there last night as I can't trust others not to feed him (ie the wives I don't know about!!)
Pics to follow later...picking him up at 4 ish!

We used to have exactly the same situation with our cat, he wouldn't groom (and wouldn't let us) and would get matted so we had to have him shaved. He would be bald except for a black furry head and black furry legs he did look a sight bless him.
We would always try and do it during summer so he didn't get cold but one year we had to do it in autumn so dh bought him a fleecey coat to wear.
He wasn't keen and would only walk backwards in it for some reasonConfused

If he's that resistant to being groomed, how the hell would you get a jumper on him??

Oh God. I remember that poor woman on 24 Hours in A&E. She was ripped to shreds. 🙀

Yes I had old boy shaved by a cat groomer every summer as he'd get dreadlocks.
He died last year the teeny eared swivel eyed dickhead (my affectionate name for him) and my god how he fought us before swaggering off.
I can always remember the look of dread when the groomer came to our house Grin
Good luck

I've always had feral cats so no I value my arms not being shredded.

Our big feisty fella happily wears his Christmas Santa jumper and Hallowe'en pumpkin jumper. He is slightly less keen on his Christmas Elf one, because it has arms sticking out at the sides which look very funny and so we have to laugh - he does not agree at all with being laughed at. He likes them in colder weather because, although he has a luxuriant coat of his own, he likes to be as hot as possible, his genes being from the jungle and desert. He only wears them indoors however. They are meant for dogs but fit him just fine.

OP - I definitely wouldn't put a jumper or coat on an unsupervised cat outdoors because of the risk of strangulation if it got caught on something.

Bloody animal..it's not as if I get his undying love and attention either is it? No he'll be begging for sympathy at Thelma's afterwards!!!

On that score I have to say I can't really blame him :)

He's booked in for next thursday... and as my nice vet has retired and it's now a medivet franchise I have been warned that it will be expensive. :( (Last time was £160 so not exactly cheap!!!!!!)

Hahahaha no! I value my life Grin

I'd worry about puss getting snagged on something outside and getting hurt.

Not sure what the solution is Confused
