Can cats have friends?

Hi have two cats brother and sister. The male cat when he goes out waits on the same patch of grass for another cat to turn up! Every night at the same time I always thought they didn't get on with other cats!!

Yes my big old ginger Tom has a big ginger male friend called Marvin. Marvin is quite shy but hangs around at our back door looking for our cat, then they sit on our drive together. Very cute.
However he has several other car enemies in the area, but his friendship with Marvin has gone on for years Grin

One of our cats struck up a friendship with the young female cat next door (both desexed so it wasn't "that" kind of fleeting friendship Grin ). It was so sweet, she would come to our front door and knock for him too, then they'd wander off together to find a nice sheltered spot to hang out together.

Meant to follow up with this and forgot!

We moved to a new area a few years ago, less urban (but same area - more trees, bigger garden) and there are loads of cats round here. My poor Ginger Boy was so lost without his Naughty Tortie that he eagerly approached any cat who came near him, resulting in him being utterly battered as they're not a friendly bunch here :(

This then impacted on my girl cat, because GB would want to play with her (he's 3 years younger) and she doesn't "do" playing, so they'd then end up fighting. It was a bit of a nightmare.

Anyways I have a very established hedge bordering my front garden on one side. At the end of the hedge is a large tree and bushes. There's a little nook where GB loves to sleep - rain or shine, cool in the summer and warm in the winter. A few other cats have also discovered this spot.

One in particular looks feral. He's quite skinny, but may just be old (can't get close enough to check him over) To begin with they would sit on opposite sides of the garden. Then they moved closer until one day I found them sat, like the sphynx, slow blinking at each other.

Black cat now is a regular caller and is even tolerated by Girl Cat. My two fight less now as well, which is a relief.

My boy used to follow the next door girl around, they would sunbathe together.

He had a friend here when we moved, big guy from across the gardens who would just come and sit by him on the other side of the run or if he got into the house he would sniff at him and they would keep company.

When my boy was PTS we let his friend see him, he was very subdued when he left.

My boys love each other, groom, hang out, sleep with paws wrapped around tight. Next door had a fighter cat, he literally ruled the street but for some reason he loved my boys (one in particular) and used to 'knock' for them. I'd often find them all sunning themselves in the garden together or strutting down the street. When he died they looked for him and I often find walk home to see one or the other of them INSIDE his house looking at me from the sitting room window 😂

Cars do have friends. I have a multi cat household. My neighbour has a multitude household. My Ronnie calls for my neighbours cat Perry and Perry calls for Ronnie. They wander off over the fields together for a day of fun. Ive always put it down to both boys being from multicat homes that they are such great friends.

I love these stories! I'm hoping for a similar ending for my cat and the girl cat next door- at the moment it's not looking hopeful though as they just sit and stare at each other - girl cat on the fence, mine in his garden- before he has had enough and chases her off ( he only does this after he's seen me though I've no idea how little no they would sit and stair if I didn't appear!) . I'm hoping they will gang up on local Bastard Cat who despite being very small terrorises all the cats in the neighbourhood.

Yip. Few weeks ago we rescued a very small, very poorly kitten. I have two established pusses who absolutely rule the roost here, even the dog fears one of them. I was terrified of letting the new kitty into the same area as them, tensions where high. Low and behold they all now appear very happy in each others company. Lots of grooming happening and sleeping curled up next to each other. I really thought it would be tougher than this.

In our old house there was a tortie next door but one.

They got her around the time I got my ginger boy. They were about the same age.

Naughty Tortie (as she became known) would call for GB every morning. They would lounge in the sunshine together, groom each other and strut the street as if they owned it.

There was a lamppost outside our house and one day I heard an awful how long, ran outside expecting something horrid to be happening and there was Naughty Tortie stuck on top of the lamppost looking very pleased with herself, while Ginger Boy screamed at the bottom to make her come down 😂

Took a ladder and several neighbours help to get her down! 😂

There are lot of friendships formed in my current cats too. Bradley used to be in love with Stacey, but she left him for Marmite (a girl cat) and Bradley is now totally in love with Humphrey.

And Napoleon is besotted with Charmaine. And I could go on.

I've posted this before too.

One of my male ferals fell in love with the boycat down the road belonging to an old lady. So much so that he moved in there. I occasionally went to visit. They were inseparable - really - where one was the other was. They also slept curled up together, groomed each other and, rather disturbingly (particularly it seems for the old lady) spent a lot of time dry humping each other Grin.

In an ending worthy of a romantic novel, after many years together one died of old age. The other one then died suddenly of natural causes only three weeks later. I like to think it was at least partly because he couldn't live without the love of his life Sad.

Ernie will see all other cats off, but will fuss around one we call Limpy cat. He looks like an older, more scruffy version of Ern.

Only thing is he does try and follow him and Limpy does seem to roam far

Definitely.

Next doors cat is friends with a little black cat from down the road. They meet and sit on the garage roof together!

My old fluffy cat used to be friends with the big ginger cat up the road. Said ginger cat was sworn enemy of our other cat.

After fluffy cat died, ginger would still come looking for her Sad

Old Boy had a girlfriend at our last house (I felt awful when we moved and they couldn't play anymore), we called her Tinkerbell and she was ^gorgeous^ Smile We got Girl Kitten (I say kitten, she's 16 months old Blush) last year though and they seem to have a similar relationship so I think he's just an old flirt. Indoor play only these days sadly, he's almost 14 and has an infiltrative lipoma so his mobility isn't good enough to risk him going outside but it doesn't stop them playing kiss chase up and down the stairs in the middle of the night Grin

The cat next door sometimes visits and we don't know he's in until we hear two thumps (cat jumping of the he'd thumps) and they appear together in the kitchen. Apparently he does the same at next doors too. There's a cat over the road that they don't get on with at all. They join forces to chase him.

My cat and her sister were best buds and she really pined when her sister was run over.
They also had a little black and white cat pal who would visit the garden and they'd all head bump each other
Cat only gets out in the garden which is now enclosed, but she and Mr black and white touch noses through the fence!

Dboycat is in love with next doors boy cat and vice versa.

Unfortunately they will insist on humping each other in the driveway in full view of the road..! We do tell them , but they dont care as it seems that they are 'out'

We have the only gay cats in the village!? (perhaps? ) Grin
