Unneutered cats CONSTANTLY attacking my spayed female?

LollipopsandWine · 20/06/2017 00:57

Someone is going to call me unreasonable here but I'm terrified/fuming right now.
My cat is tiny, the friendliest little thing ever. She is spayed, chipped and well cared for.
There are about seven un-neutered male pet cats in my area that I now recognise, as they are all in my garden at least once a day respectively. They harass my cat.

Last week she sustained an injury in the most unfortunate place; a nasty bite mark the vet says she will have gotten as she tried to escape "advances" from a larger male cat. I had her treated immediately and it was healing well. She has been allowed out for the past two days (waited for vet to say so) and then tonight I hear a cat fight.

I rush out to see my neighbours gathered in the road, DP almost crying, and one of the male "visitor" cats sloping away. He had attacked her, and the neighbours informed us that as she tried to run away she was clipped by a car.

It took us 25 mins to lure her out from her hiding spot under a parked car. The previously mentioned wound near her bits was torn from the male cat's attempt. No other obvious injuries but of course she has gone straight to the emergency vet.

Tomorrow I will be informing the owners of these unneutered males that if they do not go and get them neutered (it costs £5 ffs, I'm paying over £200 tonight just to be seen and we have money trouble) and they turn up in my garden again I will be calling the RSPCA. I think the owners are fucking irresponsible.

Anyone got a better idea of what to do? Not going to see my cat hurt like this again.

I think your a fabulous pet owner, I adore my 3 cats, if you can find out where the male un neutered cat is from, I would knock on their door a politely tell them the problem you have, but if you have neighbours like mine ( IV taken in 5 of their poor starving un neutered un spayed cats that stay out in the rain and frost ) they won’t give a damn, but name and shame them. GOOD LUCK DARLING 🙏🏻

What happened to the cats that were harassing her?

I know it's been months but I only just got a version of talk that allows photos and I did promise.

I honestly don't know because apparently "J" lived up sort of 5 streets away and recently moved here, but bloke who says "just a cat" has been there ages as far as I can tell, and I've now heard that "Smudge" is being fed in at LEAST 3 different places - like I said, a lot of people feed random cats here. Idk whether maybe knobheads ex gf thought Smudge was hers and so did J? Or maybe J left and Smudge kind of moved in with knobhead? Or maybe lots of people think Smudge is their cat but actually he's just playing them all off..

Not heard much more on any front and RSPCA have gone quiet too. Getting antsy as we are going away in 2weeks, only for 4 days but it's the first time I have ever left my kitty. She will be fed and kept in, but I worry she will be lonely, or that she will accidentally get out and Smudge will still be at large in the area.

My friend (who took the found kitten, who has been to the vets, is a he, and is currently named Paddy) suggests a trap and neuter operation of our own because it looks like proving ownership is going to be a proper ball ache here. But we would have to get him to a different vet as my vet know he isn't mine... And I don't want the cheeky fucker in my house for 24hrs while he recovers, in case he decides to add me to his list of many owners!!

So 'J' isn't the moved out ex girlfriend of the bloke that said 'it's only a cat' then? Poor bloody cat seems to have several owners, and not one of them is fit to have a cat apparently!

What I am reading into the previous comment.. Is that I should consider getting a dog :D
Still no update on "J" whoever she may be (she sounds like a very poor excuse for a pet owner and I sincerely hope she doesn't have children, in case she also denies them basic medicals like vaccines) but Smudge is still knocking around. Hmm.....

Maybe friend of a friend can get 'Smudge's' balls chopped off!

Is 'J' the ex girlfriend of your knobhead neighbour?

Well I was a bit late to the thread but I think you have managed the situation admirably. And I am very glad your little girl is properly on the mend.

I can't believe people feel they are being unkind castrating a Tom. It increases their life expectancy and general health.

Some people are too stupid to be pet owners.

Hey - I have males and there is not a chance that I would not have had them neutered. Who wants a Tom? They piss everywhere, roam, fight, are far more likely to contract diseases.

We have two around here. I fucking hate them. They used to come into my house and spray everywhere. They also attacked my boys who are massive hunters (but wussy).

Now we have a dog. I haven't seen those fuckers for a long time. Grin

The seconf I figure our how to get pictures on here I will spam you all, my girl is looking lovely right now (she's put some weight on thanks to the sleepy drugs and all the extra treats!) And the kitten is very very cute also.

In other news, the attacking cat is known about 2 roads away where a friend of a friend feeds him regularly! He calls him Smudge, and claims that he knows "of" an owner, lets call her J, but he doesnt actually know the woman and isn't even sure that she still lives here! He was simply told by someone else that that is who owns the cat. Very frustrating to be so close yet so far!!

Pretty girl destroyed the kitchen floor this morning with what my DP described as "a shit tonne" of excrement - apparently no pun intended - so I'm hoping that's the end of the constipation?

That's awful! Your poor cat!! Sad

Could you leaflet all the houses in the local area describing what's happened, it might push them into doing something.

Oohh pic of the kitten? you know you want to! Wink

Glad your little girl is feeling better - keep an eye on the constipation it can be quite nasty (and expensive)

I think this will be the final update to this thread:

My beautiful girl now has her stitches out and her cone off! Close supervision for a few days, and she is apparently constipated?! But the vet gave us something for that. She is very very happy to be cone free.
The RSPCA have paper-collared the tom and heard nothing... So he will be trapped before the end of the week hopefully!

And to top it all off we only went and found an abandoned 6 week old kitten 😂 who is staying at a friend's, because obviously, my cat was having none of it. It's been a hell of a few weeks!

You're welcome Grin try it, see for yourself. My experience does tell me that every cat is different so you never know, you may still find the cone discarded on top of the washing pile. In that case.. Yeah, I've no idea.

The cone only stayed on after I had enough and stapled thr thing together. It actually worked. Easier to fix the cone together securely that way rather than faffing with the bandage ties. This was after I attempted sellotape, too. That didn't work either. Staples are my cats cryptonite it seems.

Report
LollipopsandWine · 26/06/2017 16:18

She has pretty much destroyed the bandage that was tied through it from the vets, and is still scratching furiously at it, as well as being vocal about being kept inside. DP says she escaped this morning the sneak! Does anyone know what I could replace the bit of bandage with? Would string be okay or is it dangerous? Just to loop through the cone and tie the way the vet did originally.

You did well keeping it on that long - my DSis's cat can get a cone off in around 2 minutes while still in his carry basket!

She is back on her feet now, much steadier. Last round of antibiotics today, but carrying on with pain relief and anti inflammatories. Eating well, toileting well. Hoping this means the worst is over - just got the long wait now til she goes back to the vets on Friday. Fingers crossed! Rspca due to visit in the week too to discuss solutions :)

Hey everyone. Not much to update today, the RSPCA are insisting on a paper collar on the perpetrator asking the owner to call them. If there's no call in a week they will trap him. Am I the only one who thinks he'll probably have the collar off in an hour anyway?
My girl is doing well, still happily taking meds and eating LOADS more than usual. Weeing regularly now, very pleased with that, but she is miserable about her cone and the sheer terror of leaving her alone for 40mins to do the school run has actually been making me sick. She seems so sad and she has another week of this yet - lots and lots of cuddles and treats but I still feel very sorry for her.
Will continue to update.
