Anyone moved house with cats?

If you've moved house with cats, how long did you keep them in? Did they go missing at all after you let them out?

We moved house three weeks ago today and Toby is going stir crazy, meowing all night and picking on his sister. He's getting plenty of attention, love and play, having four small meals a day for interest etc. He was very popular with our old neighbours, so thought keeping him in would give him a real sense of home, but half feel it's doing the opposite.

Was hoping chap would come at end of week to put a cat flap in, but he hasn't been round yet to take details of what needs doing.

Usually about 2-3 weeks and then we went through all the introduction to the ourside stuff as if it was for a new cat. (In our case, more for my benefit than theirs because they were fine as long as I was.)

Could you put in the flap yourself? They're not difficult if you're halfway handy and there are videos on installation on the net if you're unsure - including \link{http://www.sureflap.co.uk/support/installing-sureflap\here} for Sureflap.

I did 4 weeks, it sounds like he's ready to go out.

I meant to do 4 weeks, but he got out in the first week by mistake. He came back as soon as I called him. He's a very bonded cat though...

Have you tried a cat Loca8tor? I'm awaiting delivery of mine, as my cat has a habit of getting shut into neighbouring cellars.

2 weeks - she was fine and no problems with going missing

Thanks for your replies. Luckily the chap is now coming to put in a cat flap on Saturday. We eat outside last night so let them out with us. Lottie came in when we bought our plates back in, Toby came in about an hour later. The fences at 6ft high but he was wiggling around a couple of times, obviously about to attempt them, so to be honest I got some catnip out to distract him.

I looked at the Loca8tor you mentioned RubbishMantra. Toby is a little monster and in his youth would removed collars within 24 hours, so we gave up after about eight!! Not sure how he'd be with one now though.

I can totally trust Lottie, but Toby worries me. I'm sure he'll try and return to our old house and neighbours (two minute walk away). I'm still in touch with both lots, so know they'll contact me if they see him, but I'm worried he'll get lost.
