The litter tray

Does anyone else's cat go walking with them?

We recently moved to a much more rural setting than we used to live in before, and Charlie, my Blue point Birman, has developed a rather amusing party trick. He follows me if I going walking. He has come all the way to the co-op 3 times (waiting in the garden of the house next door for me to come out) and also comes down to the river whenever we go to visit the ducks and swans. Does this happen to other rural people with precocious cats?

Hi Notpodd, do you still have your cat that walks and visits the ducks with you? Writing a feature about pets and would love to hear from you [email protected]

Twoago would go to the door exactly at the time I got off the bus back from work in the evening (we worked it out.) And considering that I had a variable work pattern and had to make at least two tube journeys and a bus journey each way (so my time home could vary by up to an hour on average) I found that ........interesting.

(I had a 10 minute walk from the bus stop to home through the park.)

My old cat used to walk me to work and be there to meet me at end of shift. :)
Her sister was more DH's cat, he finished work at 1am in those days and every night at 1.05am, she would jump off my knee, out the window and go and sit on the front gate post waiting to greet her dad.
He had called to say he would be late ant the cat sat on that post until nearly 4am. :)

My boy used to do this (sadly he died last month). He'd come to the park with me and DS. A couple of times he jumped in the buggy and DS pushed him home.
At our old house, which had a bus stop very near, he used to sit until the bus came and then potter off home.
Cats are great, aren't they?

my ragdoll cat follows me right down the lane. He has been more than 3 miles with me tonight! i worry that he will stray now without me.

We live in the country and our cat walks down the lane with us when we walk the dogs.

However, he just happens to be going in the same direction as us, at the same time. It is a complete coincidence. If we looks at him, he hides. We have to ignore him and pretend he is not really there or he gets very huffy Grin.

My big ginger cat I had in my youth (R.I.P Yoda :( ) used to walk me to the bus stop and see me off on the bus to college every morning!

One of mine comes round the block with the dogs. but he does not stay on the pavement all the time..he goes in random garden gates, runs through the garden then back out through another gate, does the pavement til the next gate etc..he is funny.
Sometimes he runs that fast, when we get home he lies on the floor panting like a dog Grin Don't think cats are used to long distance, they are more like sprinters!

A woman in the next street to ours used to take her cat for a walk on a lead! You'd think it would have to be some exceptionally rare breed for her to do this but it just seemed to be your everyday moggy. The poor little bugger clearly took it as a great affront judging by it's refusing to budge every few feet and all the tail-flicking that went on.

Oh this takes me back!
When I was young (I guess from about 8 to about 15), my parents had two poodles, as well as at least 6 cats (my step mum still has at least 6 cats - not the same cats as the dogs died about 20 years ago)
We'd walk the dogs up the back field, and always had at least 3 cats following - sometimes more come along as well. They all had there standard 'end of walk point' and so would drop off until we got to the stile, where Tiger aka fatcat would stand and yowl whilst I carried on with the dogs to the back field.
On our return, Tiger would still be there, yowling away. She'd stop making the racket and join us, and at various points on the return trip other moggies would join in until we had the full complement again!

One of my cats does this. He will follow us to school each morning and then stop by a road that we cross.

On my way back he is waiting for me and follows me home :)

Once we all went out for a walk. Must have been about 2 or 3 miles in total around the block. Tom followed us all the way! I was terrified he would run out in the road, so like a typical mad cat woman I kept calling him to follow once he started lagging behind!!!

We had a kitten that used to - he used to follow us to the village shop, and then wait outside panting to follow us home.

I used to have friends' who lived a street away. When I was visiting, I used to invite my cat along. She'd follow me down the road and come and hang out in my mates' house :)

When I lived in Oz my cat used to come jogging with me on the beach. He also used to scare off any dogs we saw.

2 of our cats do this. One likes to walk down the road with anyone passing in fact. Yesterday dh was out doing some work in the community woodland and he had cat help - much to the amusement of the rest of the volunteers

Reuben and Faerie have sometimes come into the field to meet us when we come back, not together, just on odd occasions....they seem pleased to see us and the dogs and vice versa.

Given Reuben's belief that he is half puppy I am surprised he doesn't come with us, he has come out of the house and garden with us but seems to prefer to head off on his own and meet us later.

grannysmith you need to start a new thread, in Childrens Health would be best - but yes it is normal in new babies Wink

ours does the nursery run on foot (paw?) with us.
it's ok if she waits at the door of the nursery, but somewhat embarrassing when she sneaks in with us and has to be booted out.

The cat we had when I was a child used to come with us when we took the dog for a walk.

There was a river and a reservoir behind our house and I remember my Mum threatening to take the cat to the cats home as he walked over the frozen reservoir and she was having a panic. Grin
