Anyone else feel like a horrible dog owner right now?

Not the biggest of problems right now I know!

My poor boy is such a ball of energy. He loves getting out multiple times a day. I'm feeling awful keeping him couped up inside!

Anyone else feeling horrible? I wish I could explain to him!

Any suggestions on keeping him entertained indoors would be welcome Smile

Mine are getting more walks as the children older children take them so they can get some space from the family as well as exercise. They are also enjoying everyone being home more. I think they have benefitted from this.

Ours have had a lovely day. They've sat in the sun, had supper in a wobble ball and spent about 20 mins trying to find tiny bits of fish I hid in the garden.

Me, I feel like a bad dog owner! Dh and I are now both WFH, ddog is clearly very confused that we are around all. The. Time. But not actually able to constantly play with her! Normally when we are out she just sleeps (we have a webcam) but no amount of playing is enough when we are in...

I'm trying to make up for it by giving her lots of sniffy time, but also really feeling lack of variety in walks as we aren't driving to any of our local more interesting routes.

Mine loves if. Two long walks a day (we take him separately), ball chasing in the garden, sunbathing, snuggles on the sofa...

Ive a shih tzu cross (cavatzu) and he is not built for much exercise. He has gone from 3 walks, two of them big walks) a day to two shorter walks a day. As we are All home, he is in and out of the garden having a sniff and a wander. He isnt bothered at all. They adapt.

Ddog is loving the company and she did get a bit frustrated that she only had one walk today which she usually has but she normally goes for a coffee or a shopping trip or agility or Something. So we did some play in the garden instead

But I do feel sorry that she might not be clipped and she hates looking like a fluffy mop. Especially in the warmer months

I live in the country. The footpaths around my home have been heaving! I’ve been walking the dogs at 7am to avoid them.

@Hovverry My dad had one that wouldn't poo in the garden, hard work 🙈

The exercise once a day is to reduce the number of people outside. If we live in the country we can walk our dogs and see few if any other people and can easily keep well apart.
We are walking our very high energy young lunatic twice because he won't pee or poo in the garden. We can do this without ever getting close to anyone else.

Useful dog story.... A man sent a chihuahua to the local shop with a note and money tucked into it's collar!!
Worth a Google imo!!

I'm trying to teach my dog to be useful. I've put a spearmint flavoured cloth in my phone case and she tries to find my phone. She's getting good.

caringcarer I've had to order some clippers off amazon - mine are going to be sheared very soon, poor things.

Mine are loving it. I have 3 children at home able to walk them, and me, so they get several walks a day if they want. (one of us out at a time, corona police...).

They are loving all the company and the games. They will hate it when we all go back to work.

The cats on the other hand....

Mine have made it clear I’m a poor substitute for all their daycare friends

Every time I stand up my dog runs to the front door. I feel so guilty and have said sorry to him 634 times today.
We were out for 2.5 hours earlier but we normally do that plus extra trips round the block.
I have made an obstacle course in the living room, I hide food throughout the house for him to find and do some trick training. But it isn't really a good swap for his doggy pals that he's used to playing with.
Fuck you, covid 19.

Pesty, you're not a horrible dog owner. You're doing your very best under trying circumstances, so cut yourself some slack.

(Also she can retrieve a duck! And you taught her! How cool is that??)

Windy the Pony is lovely.

Have you noticed how some of us have dogs that are always either asleep or out of focus in photos?

Mine woke me at 5 a couple of mornings ago. Well 5.15 to be precise. Little beast had eaten something vile on our walk that afternoon, I saw her do it but wasn't quick enough to stop her, and need to vomit it back up.

I couldn't be too cross with her though as she barked for me to let her out and waited until she was in the garden before disposing of it.

Bless her, I could hear her making gagging noises while she waited to go outside. Such a good girl really.

My girls look scruffy as not been able to go for 2 weekly grooming session and bath. I am seriously wondering if I ought to take clippers to them and cut their beautiful long fur off. Obviously we brush and comb them at home but nowhere near as good as groomers and they also trim to keep them cute looking.

Report
userxx · 25/03/2020 15:16

@PestyMachtubernahme Ok, I can see it now - the black and white photo made her look very different! 5am is a bit unnecessary isnt it!
