Many tears rescue any experience?

We are hoping to get a rescue dog and have been looking at a few sites.
We want another small dog similar size to our current cavalier and Lhasa.
RSPCA etc seem to have lots of large type dogs.
Many tears seem to have a lot of the small ex breeding etc dogs.
The many tears system has confused me, it appears that you choose a dog on the website, fill in an application, have the home check, if you are successful you meet the dog and take it home from the foster home or their kennels in wales within 3 days.
I've had rescue dogs and also bought dogs from family homes before.
I've always met the dog/ puppy, and been able to see them in person, how they interact etc, and been able to make a decision as to whether they will fit into our family .
Several times I've viewed dogs and have had concerns about them e.g. Being terrified of men, or I just had niggles about the breeders .
Or sometimes you just don't click with a dog.
It just feels alarming to me to pick a dog from a photo and a brief description. What if when you meet the dog you just don't click with them?
I've noticed the dogs in foster homes tend to have a few photos and much more detailed description of their behaviour etc.
has anyone had any experience of this or any suggestions for other rescues, we are in Lancashire.

If you look at it from Many Tears situation they have a large number of dogs to rehome. Most of the staff are volunteers and they are a non profit making organisation. They had more than two people wanting the same dog one person was contactable and the rehoming was done quickly.

They do not have the staff or the time to wait around for people to be available to speak to them if someone else is available to rehome the dog.

tbf they do have a point about your son the dog could be with you for another 10-15 years depending on the age your son hopefully will have flown the nest by then!

They are not "professional" they are not a retail outlet where you can pick and choose. They are a rescue organisation doing a fantastic job with limited resources and offering life time cover for all their dogs.

Our experience with Many Tears has been nothing but positive so far. We’ve adopted two dogs from them, one an ex-breeder, the second a street dog, though honestly, you wouldn’t know it with the latter; she’s been a delight. We collected both from fosterers, 2-3 hours drive away. The first was moved from a family near the kennels to another one closer to where we live to make the process easier for us.

It helped with the second dog that I was already a member of their online forum so was able to do some research and get advice and recommendations from some of the fosterers. By the time our form went in, we’d already had an in depth chat with the foster family who supported our application.

MT can come over a bit brusque, but the sheer volume of work there means that they prioritise care of the dog above all else. I’ve met the MT owner. She’s lovely.

And no, I don’t work for them btw!

Many tears do a good job . We had a Belgian shepherd from them 9 years ago and she is fab. We took her back lpokong for another dog and they were so happy with how she had turned out. We adopted an elderly Doberman who was also fab although he has now passed away. Many tears is really flexible about.most things. Only two things you have to promise, not to house them outdoors and to spend limited time away from them. I don't think either are bad ideas.

I literally just went there with the hope to adopt a little dog that they post in their website as “overlooked”. From the moment that I arrived I expressed my interest in this particular dog and no one told me that he was reserved. I waited patiently until a boy offered to show me the dog. Everything was fine until I said that I worked (I didn’t know that that was a sin for this people), yes I work to pay my bills and to have the opportunity to offer a home to a dog. I had a dog who was my baby and who sadly passed 9 month ago after living a happy and long live with me for 16 amazing years. Now that I feel that I can start thinking in having another dog this people treat me so badly that I almost cried on my way home. The woman that attended me at the end was so rude and cruel with me that I just left without any hope. I don’t think that a dog can be better off in a place like that than in a house where he could have all the attention and love that they deserve. The fact that I work 4 nights a week for 10 hours doesn’t mean that the dog is not well looked after, or they always sleep on that place with the dogs and only for 4 hours each night??? The dogs spend much more hours alone and with little affection in that place than they would in a house. That’s why they have so many animals in there because their policies are way too restrictive and they don’t look into each individual case, they will only see if you work or not. I’m so disappointed and sad.

Are you saying that you wanted to leave the dog alone for 10 hours?
If that is the case they were right to turn you down

I had the lovely opportunity to talk to MT between thurs and today and they give conflicting information. How on earth they chose who is suitable and who is not...the mind boggles. Really disappointed with them. Need better communication skills.

Heard many mixed stories about this organisation. From what I've seen here if they rescue breeding bitches they obviously have contacts with the puppy farmers and sounds to me its a business not a rescue ..... why do you think they cannot register as a charity?

Hi..not sure if they can/cant register...i just know its not classed as a charity..the woman Sylvia van Atta who started it had bad press a while back and she stepped away from MTrescue however she runs a kennel(Cawdor kenneels) from the same address...kennels are even under the same phone number....it just doesnt sit right with me...

Its not illegal to record a conversation as long as its for your ears only....if you're gonna broadcast it you need to tell em and ask permission.

I've never used them but there's some talk online of them being closely linked to puppy farms and not in a good way.

That they obviously work with these notorious puppy farms and help them "get rid" of the dogs that aren't selling or that they no longer have use for by offering them up for adoption instead.

Are they just helping the pups or is there a business/financial connection there too?

A friend of mine adopted a pup from MT a few years ago. The breed was completely the wrong type of dog for her, high energy, full on, slightly neurotic breed/dog for a nervous first time dog owner, with 2 children who works out of the house for most of the day! She even admitted she didn’t have the time to commit to training.

Her dog is loved, but I can’t help thinking MT didn’t do their homework properly and haven’t done right by this particular dog.

I think the problem here is that Many Tears are condoning the puppy farms to fund their own needs. Yes the puppy farmers would destroy the breeding dogs however they are still condoning it by continuing to rehome the breeding bitches. Is it just me or can anyone else not see how wrong this is???

Hi there
We applied this week to adopt a collie who had been there for sometime and little interest. We are experienced collie owners and the dog would not be left alone at all but the whole process was a farce from day one and a complete waste of time.
Multiple emails and phone calls, then they asked my mother in law to ring them as she dog sits for us twice a week if needed. However that wasn’t enough and we had to take my mother in law down to mt so they could ask further questions and see how she handled the dog, even though she was more than experienced with our two previous collies.
No one seemed to know what they were doing, she wasn’t asked one question and no one bothered with her at all.
All seemed to go okay and our little dog who they also asked us to bring got on fine with the mt dog. (Which was amazing as she is from Romania and gets very stressed on long car journeys & it was about 90 mins in the car)
We then had our home check which went well & were asked to ring them the following day.
At that point we were told no! That she could not be homed with cats, that she met some cats out that morning and it had not gone well. Bearing in mind we told them when we first visited that we had 2 cats, told them on our application as well.
Surely a dog who has been there for some time would have been cat tested; they didn’t even know if she’d been spayed or not!
They wasted my husbands time who took time off work to go down, my mother in laws time and stressed out our current dog on a long car journey, not to mention fuel cost. They seem to have their process arse backwards. It’s also not fair on the dog to do these meet and greets without them doing their homework first.
They seemed to put obstacles in our way from day one as if they really did not want us to adopt at all. We will not be supporting mt again my only sadness is for the poor dogs. ( the dog we were interested was brought out by one particular person who proceeded to yank the dog around with no care leaving the dog cowering. Yes train the dog but through positive reinforcement not by being cruel)
So many wonderful homes out there and so many obstacles put in the way. I’m all for making sure the dog goes to a good home but at least get the adoption process right and stop wasting everyone else’s time! We have been left with a bad experience of many tears and we have adopted through hope rescue, four paws & a promise to felix who were all fantastic.
I only wish you good luck and a better experience than we had.

I think a lot of the posts on here are very naive. Many Tears do jot have a policy against home working. If some one was told that it will be because someone was reluctant to tell you the real reason they didn't want you to have one of their dogs. Secondly, if you have to work 7 hours a day to pay your dogs bills, you shouldn't have a dog. They are pack animals, they need company throughout the day, not just for a couple of hours on an evening. Regarding supporting the puppy farm trade by rescueing dogs... That statement is true of those that buy dogs from puppy farms, but not true of the ex-breeders. As people have said, these dogs are no longer of use to the puppy farmers, in fact they become a liability so they have to be disposed off. After a life of breeding one litter after another litter, often by the means of a rape chair, followed by their puppies being removed before either bitch or puppy is ready for seperation, they are then killed. Often by a shovel to the head, or often thrown into slurry pits where hopefully they are knocked unconsious by the fumes before they drown in the slurry. This is the reality for ex-breeders if Many Tears and other rescues like them didn't take these poor abused dogs.

I can't see an issue with working from home, however that was the final obstacle set up by MTAR. In my original application I mentioned I use Doggy Daycare at my place of work with my current dog, which they didn't think was suited to ex-breeders, although this wasn't our only option. A later application got further and they wanted a name and contact info to obtain a reference from my husband's work, as he works from home. This was provided and all went quiet, so I enquired about progress, however the person I spoke to couldn't find my application. This seemed to initiate a blunt email saying our situation wasn't suited.I spoke to someone else who said these animals need attention, which can't be given when working at home. I do wonder if this was an excuse as she raised Doggy Daycare again, which I had previously repeatedly assured was not being used. She wasn't friendly, so I sadly walked away, as it was evident MTAR wasn't going to let us rehome a dog from them. We have a confident existing dog, lovely walks practically on our doorstep and experience, but don't meet their exacting criteria.

Many Tears are even worse during the these days and become totally paranoid. An absolute nightmare and to be avoided at all costs. A lot of the negative reviews on here are consistent with my own experience. Yes they are a charity but that doesn't excuse their poor adoption procedures, lousy communication skills and inflexibility on collection dates.
