The doghouse

Does anyone else's dog eat used tissues?

He's 5 now and takes used tissues out of the bin, or iff DSes have left them lying from surfaces and eats them.

When he was a puppy he was a horrendous chewer, chewed everything from socks to plasterboard, wooden skirting boards and books. This all stopped when he was about 18 months, but the tissue thing has remained constant.

is it usual, or is it a Border Collie trait?

Yeah my staffy X springer pup loves them. She runs upstairs to nick them out of the bin and shred them under my bed.

The worst thing she chewed was a (probably used) condom by a car park/ playground last week though Shock I wanted to bleach her mouth and my hands!

Our dog usually chews toys too, plastic rubber thing that mIl keeps buying him. But he has a teddy. he loves teddy, it gets cuddled in bed and licked and played with. It is now 2 years that he has had it and never once has it been ripped to shreds.
Oh and here he comes now with another tissue from the bin! FGS

All three of ours have done this, 2 German Shepard x border collies and a cocker spaniel x, the dirtier the better!
The most recent addition the cocker spaniel x also fancies herself as the Andrex dog!

Baby wipes here. And baby socks.

An otherwise well-behaved 18 month old springer.

My last lab did it till the day she died, would even delicately extract one from the box and slink off.

Hully does it too.

Posted too early , the old ' dog ate my homework' story would actually be true in this house !

My terrier shreds anything papery that he can find and sometimes will deliberately drop bones in the magazine/ catalogue basket just so he's got an excuse to get his teeth on some paper

mostly takes things to her bed

very true here too, she loves the attention she gets from stealing stuff and then piles her hoard in her bed!

Beagle here that does it! Only 3 though so not surprising for her breed! Massive chewer until 2, still steals stuff, but mostly takes things to her bed!

Tissues she likes to shred into the smallest possible pieces!

My collie does the same, she takes them out of my bag.

Do you think they have supermodel aspirations?

Oh, and he's a collie cross.

Mine tears tissues into tiny pieces, which he then leaves in a pile. He does the same with bus tickets and receipts. No idea why. And he never chews anything else.

My 12 year old, possible senile retriever shreds napkins and tissues too. Always has done.

Glad its not just mine then. Oh and yes to pulling them out the other end although nothing will ever compare to pulling a whole pair of tights out of other end

My GSP loves used tissues, particularly those left by strangers on the street - EUCH.
