HOWARD'S WAY From Start - Drama Channel

mum2jakie · 02/01/2023 14:09

Starting today - Howard's Way is showing every week day at 2pm on the Drama Channel.

That theme tune takes me right back to the eighties and Sunday evenings!!! I grew up in the Midlands so had no idea about half of the terms but loved it!

I adored this and wanted Jans life when I grew up. It all seemed so glamorous

Hmmm this is a risk. My sky box is set for 2.50am so time will tell!

Is this going to be one of those things which you have really fond memories of and it turns out to be dire?
I remember watching it as an early teen every week with my mum and thinking that the characters were all terribly glamorous with the most exciting lives.

There was also 'The boutique' that sold absolutely awful 80s puffy sleeved monstrosities.

Surely you can't possibly be referring to the inspirational, and indeed aspirational, fashion creations from the House of Howard?

Oops I got my apostrophe in the wrong place. I always thought it was Howard's Way, not Howards' Way.

I didn't understand half the terms as a child. Just remember lots of excitement about something called a catamaran.

Shock

You're absolutely right.

Those of you lamenting you'll be at work when it's on, Drama channel catch up is free on UK TVPlay. Might take a while to crop up though.

It's on already - first 12 episodes or so.

I remember it as very wooden acting....and Abbie and Leo were so wet

Oh the acting was terrible and you are spot on about those two.

There was also 'The boutique' that sold absolutely awful 80s puffy sleeved monstrosities.

It's all coming back to me now...

My Dad had a sort of Howards Way drinking game (we weren't actually drinking as we were in our early teens). We'd mime drinking every time someone mentioned 'The Merger'

It was so melodramatic. Loved it.

Bother, I'm at work - does drama have a catch up service?

It's repeated at 2.50am if you want to record the whole series. I think the Drama channel catch up service is through UK TV play.

It’s called Always There - there’s 41 episodes and I listened to every one of them!

There’s a podcast which discusses each episode of Howard’s Way in detail. I’ll try and find it

It's what got me into sailing... I moved to beside a marina a couple of years ago, though still saving for the yacht (I crew for a guy down the road currently)

I've done some googling on the cast members and sadly many seemed to have died young. The actor who played Tom Howard died in 1990 in his forties.

I also discovered that the actor who played Leo Howard is father to Freddie Highmore of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Good Doctor/Bates Motel fame!!

Oh I used to watch this Grin

Charles Frere , very glam
Ken with his white slacks , I bet he could strip an engine but still stay Persil White !
Jan with her earring , shoulder pads and big porrly hair .
Her Mum was the sensible one .Voice of reason.

I'm in 2 minds wether to watch . I found "Gentlemen and Players" on youTube (another blast from the 80s) it hadn't aged well at alll .

I think he did. Although Jan was probably more his age (or am I still stuck in my irrational teenage mind?!).

I'd forgotten about Charles Frere @red4321 . He was attractive in that suave older man kind of way. He married the girl who played Lynne, if my memory serves me correctly.

It brings back happy memories for me - a Hampshire girl - been to the Jolly Sailor many times with my Mum and Dad. I adore Howards Way.

BTW I think the CF actor sadly died of a brain tumour
