Witnesses: A Frozen Death, BBC4

Did anyone see this last night? I enjoyed it. French crime/thriller rather than BBC4's more usual Scandi fare, but quite acceptable Grin

They've given the female lead the obligatory unreliable vintage car and made her a slightly OCD single parent, but it's shaping up nicely, I think. 8 episodes in total.

It would certainly have been nice if they'd offered some sort of explanation of what the hell was going on, both with Geir and the old man. Did anyone work out why he was happy to give children to him but then killed him?

After about halfway it was just dreadful. Nothing added up. You need a convincing motive when it involves multiple baddies and multiple victims. It just wasn't! I'm not watching any more series.

What the fuck was all that? Confused It started out ok but then it descended into utter bollocks.

In French bébés are always le bébé, even girl
babies. She knew she had a baby but not the sex. So the fille was son bébé, if that makes sense.

I didn't get what had happened to Geri after age 11 when he last saw Atticus-was that when the orphanage closed? They didn't explain properly.

Still loved it. I was convinced Catherine would die as her surname is Keemer (sounds like ´qui meure' as in Catherine-who-dies...I saw an interview with the cast where they were joking about it.

After enjoying the first five episodes the last three episodes just got ridiculous. Never really explained how certain happenings were possible or did I just lose interest and fall asleep?

I have just started to watch this and am enjoying it but also finding some of it a bit bonkers. Sandra's 12 year-old daughter looks about 8 (or younger)to me. Also did anyone notice in the first episode the body on the pathologist's slab was moving (twitchy neck), and the frozen men on the bus all looked hilariously alive.

I also didn’t understand why it suddenly switched to a girl! It was all pretty farcical but the last episode was utterly absurd. It didn’t explain why Geir was doing what he was doing really, abducting a woman and keeping her locked up, killing all partners and marrying her and having a baby. Why did he kill one and release Catherine?

Having said that I would watch the first series if I could find it.

Ah, I wondered WTF she had been going on about her son all the way through and suddenly it was a daughter - I thought I must have missed something somewhere!

I don't think she knew what she had. Maybe she was told it was a boy? And the old man said something about she hadn't been a good mum "to her first two daughters so why would she be to her third?"

I enjoyed it, but thought I must be losing the plot when the Catherine Tate look-alike insisted she was looking for her lost son, who suddenly changed to her lost daughter in the last episode Confused.

Also confused as to why Catherine's baby changed sex. Enjoyed it but too far fetched at times and they seemed to travel from Lille area to Mont St Michel far too quickly. A lot of poetic licence methinks!

It felt really rushed at the end.

Hmmm, the last episode was a bit of a disappointment. An old guy who wants to set children free, living in a feral community doesn't really explain Geir's motives or the others for that matter. And how come Catherine's baby changed from son to daughter.

Still enjoyed it and I was glad Eric didn't end up as a frozen statue.

I think I will be a more wary when visiting Cite Europe next time Grin

They found out that the killer has a nordic name, Geir. From their visit to the garage where he worked, they got the name of his friend who works in the police force. Sandra went to visit this friend to get some more information. When she saw the tin of Danish cookies, she realised that the friend could actually be Geir. Danish = Nordic.

Hope that makes sense.

Report
bluetrees · 16/12/2017 00:24

or it's because he's got a nordic name? and then she heard the freezers.

I think the cookies came from her house. But only a guess - I don't know that for sure.

I didn't understand the significance of the Danish cookies. Can anyone explain please?

Well I was right about it being someone forensically trained...

Yes, totally unbelievable. Can just about believe that Sandra would be allowed by her colleagues to 'go rogue'. BUT Catherine Keemer going AWOL is definitely breaking her 'protective custody' conditions, so shouldn't les flics have been after her for that reason alone? Also, once Sandra semi-abducted Christiane from the psychiatric hospital, surely her colleagues would have had a duty of care to track them down, regardless of the former doing good detective work? And that they were driving around in that oh so identiable yellow car for so long - surely they would have been spotted at some point?

Sandra strikes me as being super smart and savvy, so why go alone to see Geir Jansen, leaving super vulnerable Christiane waiting outside?

Still, it's very good TV and there is just something about this sort of French drama that is just makes them so engrossing to watch - classy.

What is it with maverick cops not going by the book? Sheesh.

The butter cookies was hilarious. He doesn't look like a cookie eater!
